Vegetable Soil & Compost Mix Dublin area only

In a nutshell....

A bulk 1 tonne bag of our vegetable soil and compost mix for vegetable gardening delivered in the Dublin area only

Soil & Compost Mix For The Vegetable Garden

Contents: 800 litres cubed is approx 1 tonne bag

'Feed your plants and your plants will feed you'. The most important ingredient in your vegetable garden is your soil. This is our peat free mix of screened topsoil, composted green material and horticultural grit. Get yourself off to a head start with the Rolls Royce of soils.

Please note. We do not use any horse manures in our Veg mix to avoid the possibility of aminopyralids getting in to your Veg mix bag. We also screen the soil down to 20mm. This means there will be no large stones in the mix but there will be small gravel and stones which are important to allow for good drainage. Soil screened to below this level leads to poor drainage and compaction.

Our Vegetable soil is mixed by us and used in our raised bed installations. It is a mix of soil, compost and horticultural sand. The mix is the following proportions:

60% Top quality screened topsoil.

30% Peat free compost. This compost is composed of well rotted plant material. It is a nutrient rich sustainable product.

10% Horticultural sand to improve drainage.

While every effort is made to remove any foreign bodies from the soil and compost we supply we cannot guarantee it is completely free of small fragments of sharp objects. All our soil and compost must pass thorough a fine screening process down to a 20mm but small unwanted particles can escape this process.

While it is unusual to find small pieces of glass or ceramic with sharp edges this does happen from time to time. We strongly recommend using a good pair of gardening gloves when handling any topsoil or municipal compost and our mix is no exception.

Delivery is Kerbside delivery. We don't guarantee the bag can be left within the boundry of your property. If we can't access your driveway the bag will be left at the closest point possible.

The soil is delivered in cubic metre bags placed on a wooden pallet. The soil can only go as close to your site as the hand operated pallet truck allows. The truck is not equipped with a grab so bags cannot be lifted over walls or hedges.

While the delivery driver will do his best to get the bag as close as he can to your property he is unable to move the bag over kerbs, up an incline or on loose gravel surfaces. Remember the bag is a tonne weight and once off the truck is moved by the effort of the driver alone. Be careful as well as we use large trucks for these deliveries and do not have access to smaller trucks for these bulk deliveries so if your lane or road is narrow please call us first to discuss.

If you are unsure about access to your property please call us beforehand to discuss.

Delivery in the Dublin area is normally 2/3 days and outside of Dublin 3/4 days. This can go out by another day in March and April when order volumes rise.

I used the tonne of soil to fill my 2 new raised beds. Everything grows very well and it seems to retain moisture quite well too. One star less because there were a lot of stones in the soil (2€ coin sized, which I picked out while filling the beds) and so many weeds and grass in it. It's tricky to distinguish which is a sown seedling and which is a weed and I'm constantly weeding.. delivery was great and on time (while the raised beds were obviously stored wet at the courier..)

Soil arrived bang on time and made a great job of a new raised bed which will be fully operational in the spring. Really easy way to get soil for the garden

Took me ages to get this round the back but after a few trips with the wheel barrow and some hours hard graft had my raised beds and allotment sorted with some fresh soil. Feels great, very little clumps and easy to use.

I got this product for my vegetable bed. It was really good and the crops are thriving. The only drawback is that its impossible to move without emptying the bag and that takes a lot of digging and carrying

Hi Niall, one of my raised beds got hit with onion fly over wintering and the yield for veg was very low for the veg that survived anyway. I’m also thinking the nutrient levels might be low but i did top up with 2 inches of well rotted compost back in Dec. I’m literally thinking of replacing all the compost in the this bed with your veg soil and compost mix. What are your thoughts on growing veg direct into compost and or do you think a soil compost mix is best? (Obviously, there is soil below compost at ground level but you know yourself a lot of crops grow out rather than down)
Answered by Niall

Hi Alan Replacing all of the soil seems a bit extreme but will certainly solve your problem with Onion Fly. It may be best to remove the top 4/5 inches and then get a good compost like Envirogrind and mix this through with the soil you have left in the bed. Growing veg direct in to compost is not recommended. It will work for certain crops like potatoes but not for most as it will be to rich. Best to mix about 50% soil to 50% compost Niall Quickcrop

Hi I am hoping to buy your Vegtrug Wall Hugger Trough Planter, and wanted to at the same time place a order for 170 ltr of soil/compost for growing vegetable, please advise what product I should buy as the bulk option is way too much for me
Answered by Niall
on May 05th, 2021
Hi Christine The Jacks magic in the 50 litre bags is probably your best bet but you might be as well to add in either some Seafeed seaweed pellets or a bag of Envirogrind to the mix to make sure you have plenty of nutrients in the mix. So maybe 3 x Jacks magic and 1 x Envirogrind bag NIall Quickcrop

I filled my raised beds with this last year. Will I need to top it up this year?
Answered by Niall
on February 11th, 2021
Hi Debbie A small bag of the 60 litre envirogrind is always good to add on. However the soil you put in last year would have had a lot of nutrients in it so it should be fine for this season Niall Quickcrop

Is there an organic version of this and can it be delivered outside Dublin, even in smaller bags?
Answered by Niall
on November 09th, 2020
Hi Gina The topsoil used in this mix is from an Organic farm however the compost mixed in is not. It is impossible to get certified bulk bags of vegetable mix however this is the closest we or anyone can get to it Niall Quickcrop

Hello, I have been given a gift of a raised bed on legs. it is 5ft x 2.2ft and 10 inches high. I'm a total beginner but hope to grow a selection of vegetable and herbs. Which soil / compost should I choose and how much?
Answered by Niall
on May 18th, 2020
Hi Siobhan You will need roughly 550 litres of soil to fill that sized bed. Our tonne bags of vegetable mix would be the best to fill this however they are 850 litres so you will have a few wheelbarrows left over Niall Quickcrop

What would I need to add to this soil to grow tomatoes? I have about 12 tomato plants started off in pots.Would this product be suitable if I ordered it for home delivery? Thank you.
Answered by Niall

Hi Jean This is perfect for tomatoes so no need to add anything. The only thing about tomatoes is that you need to feed the soil in September when the crop is maturing Niall Quickcrop

Hi, we're 5 mins from the Johnstown exit in Naas direction. Can you confirm if you consider this within the Greater Dublin area please?
Answered by Niall

Hi Caroline I am afraid once it doesn't have a Dublin address or postcode the transport companies will charge us the country rate. So you will have to choose the out of Dublin rate. Sorry about that Niall Quickcrop

Hi is this product the same as the Envirogrind Compost and Soil Improver also advertised on your website
Answered by Niall
on February 17th, 2020
Hi Jean No it is very different. The Envirogrind is compost only and is for adding to existing soil to enhance the ability to grow great veg. The Vegetable soil mix is a really good sandy topsoil with 30/40% compost mixed in for perfect growing. When you use this product you don't need to add anything to it Niall Quickcrop

Could this also be used to top dress a lawn which has clay soil?
Answered by Niall
on July 09th, 2019
Hi Damian I literally just did the very same myself about a month ago so the answer is yes. On a positive. With the strong compost mix it will also encourage worms in to the soil allowing the clay soil good aeration Niall Quickcrop

It will take 2,000 litres of soil to fill the 4 beds. Each of the bags of compost are 850 litres. So two bags will give you 1,700 litres and you can use standard 5 x standard 60litre bags of compost to fill the rest.
