I got two of these during the week, and while they are a similar price on many other sites, The quality of these sleepers is much better. It has the feel and look of mahogany, Is it? because if it is that's a great price for the amount of it.

Good quality solid timber. As previous user wrote, looks like Mahogany in colour, a nice soft mellow brown but easy to cut and drill through. My new raised bed looks great. Communication and delivery with purchase was excellent. Thanks Quickcrop, we'll be in touch again!

Would the life expectancy of these sleepers be better than your deluxe raised beds ? Also if I was to make a raised bed ( I calculate using 9 of these sleepers) i.e. 2.4 m long x 0.6m high x 1.2m wide how much soil/compost would I need to buy to fill it ?

Hi Brian. Personally i wouldn't suggest using these sleepers or any sleepers for that matter for growing food. They are fine for steps in a garden or for Raised flower beds but the wood is treated with Bresote and really is not something you want in contact with soil that you are going to grow crops in.

Hi interested in these sleepers. What type of wood are they and where are they sourced from? Thanks.

The Sleepers are made from pressure treated Spruce which has been stained with a brown pigment. They are made for us by our local sawmills and are not treated with creosote.
