Setanta ORGANIC Maincrop Seed Potatoes

Limited stock so order early

A very high dry matter potato with good resistance to blight. Setanta seed potatoes are an Irish variety using Rooster as one of its parent varieties. It is excellent for roasting, baking and chipping owing to its high dry matter. We think taste is one of the best for floury potatoes.

Yields are large with beautiful oval red skinned tubers with a creamy yellow flesh. As well as being resistant to blight Setanta also has a reputation of being drought hardy and relatively pest and disease free. Keeps very well in storage, a very good choice for the home organic grower. Love it.

  • Maturity - Maincrop
  • Shape -  Oval
  • Skin – Red, smooth
  • Flesh -  Light yellow
  • Texture - Floury
  • Preparation -  Baking, roasting and chips

Sowing: Mid to late April.

Great all round Late main-crop Potato, drought resistant, good blight resistant, good yield , great to eat anyway you cook them, stores well, only slight negative is that they are a bit slow to grow so weeds may be a problem, 10 out of 10 for Setanta.

Tried Setanta for the first time this (2020) year. My problem previously is slug and worm damage but the Setanta seemed largely immune, even when a different variety in a neighboring row was affected, it didn't spread. So, i am happy with that.

I've grown setanta spuds for the last two years. Despite drought last year's crop was my best ever. Large floury tubers which were suitable for roast mashed etc. I didn't try chips but they would probably be good for that too. Only problem was eelworm damage. I didn't spray them at all. Usually bluestone is a pain but this variety didn't need it.

Have planted crop. Order came on time and was correct. I suppose star review depends on quality and quantity of crop. But for now 5 stars seems fair

My seed potatoes arrived safely this morning and look good. I use Setanta most years as my maincrop due to their good blight resistance - they are very tasty, store well and are great for boiling, roasting, chips, you name it! Also I was delighted to see Quickcrop had very competitively priced organic seed of this variety this year as I like to keep artificial chemicals out of my garden as much as possible.

I tried the Setanta potatoes last year, but unfortunately something else got to them before I had a chance to lift them. I found them scattered on the surface, half-eaten. There seemed to be a reasonable crop of good sized potatoes and they had a modest flavour both roasted and baked, from the few that I did manage to rescue. The one downside with this variety is that I found them very prone to slug attack. I'm giving them another go this year to see if they fare any better.
