SuperNemos - an Irish invention - is a biological control product containing microscopic beneficial nematodes (found in healthy soil). The invention is a special formulation - patent pending - of nematodes which aggressively pursue several or different groups of insect pest; thus ‘Super’ and ‘Nemos’ (nematodes).

SuperNemos is UNLIKE ANY OTHER bio-control (nematodes) product sold on the market, which contain only one single beneficial nematode species, and can only target one group of insects pests.SuperNemos targets a range of garden pests.
SuperNemos (Bio-Insecticide) is an environmentally friendly product that is harmless to wildlife, earthworms, bees, bumblebees, pets and children.
It attacks only target insect pests.
There is no need for masks or specialized safety equipment.

When applied in specific soil, SuperNemos will attack its target insect species; the nematodes enter the host through body openings or by penetration of the body wall.
Once inside they kill the host within 48 hours.

I've used these before to control vine weevil with great effect, and am hoping they will also control the wireworms on my new allotment. I know I'll need to drench my plot again next year for good control but am happy to do that, knowing I am using an organic control. They are so easy to mix and use.

The product comes in a small package with instructions on the inside. It could be prepared more or less as described although I found it hard to get all of the lumps out in the initial mixing. As these are clumps of nematodes then presumably they weren't released properly into the solution. If I was using it again I would wait until the majority of the beds were clear or covered with only small plants as wetting leaves and stems leaves the nematodes high and dry and unable to work. So my guess is that spring would be an optimum time. Just be aware that it is recommended, once the initial application is made, that the soil is kept wet for maximum effectiveness. With 100sq metres to attend to with the largest pack, this can be a big job if no rain falls or is forecast. Since application the prevalence of wireworms has certainly dropped, although not completely eliminated. I will give it another try in April and see if this knocks them out

Very good value as it targets such a broad range of pests. I found it worked very well for leatherjackets and wire worms in my garden. Read instructions carefully as it's important you apply it in low light levels (at dusk) or the nematodes can be killed. Happy with product especially as it's chemical free.

Hi, I want to plant some of your Autumn seedlings. I have had cabbage root fly and am wondering if using the Supernemos Nematodes now will sort out this proplem or is it too late? Thanks.

Hi Brenda. The supernemos doesn't work on Cabbage Root fly as they work above the soil and the nematodes work in the soil. That said Cabbage Root fly and other nasties die off at this time of the year so you don't need to worry about them in the Autumn or early Spring.

Hi, I have recently planted young hazel trees (different varieties of cobnuts) which have become infested with mating weevils Polydrusus (green/leaf weevil). Is Supernemos Nematodes affective against them? If so when is the best time to treat the trees and soil? Thank you

Hi Lisa. I have contacted the manufacturer on your behalf and will be back to you when I have more information.

Hi Lisa. Supernemos will be effective against green weevil. It will be best applied now (in May) and again in early Autumn. You will be treating soil only as Supernemos is a nematode worm that attacks the viral stage of the weevil. I hope this helps. Andrew

Will this product control codling moth larva over wintering in the ground.
Answered by Andrew
on November 12th, 2015
Hi Tom. Nematodes will not be effective against overwintering larvae as you need to apply it in warmer weather, from Spring to early Autumn. There is a nematode product that is used to control codling moth but unfortunately Supernemos does not target this pest. Sorry I can't help with this one. Andrew

For how long will the Nematodes remain active, is it necessary to repeat the application and if so how often
Answered by Andrew

Hi Gerard the Nematodes will remain active for approx 3 months. It depends how severe the problem you have is. I applied twice a year for 3 years to get my garden under control from a severe infestation of leatherjackets. I now apply once a year as a preventative measure.
