Description
Organic Horse Manure
Organically certified and peat free horse manure for the vegetable garden - sourced from local stables in Cork.
There is nothing added to the manure: it is woodrow composted over a long period of time (over a year), reaching temps of 60+ degrees C. The extra heat kills weed seeds and leaves the horse manure completely odourless with a great texture.
Before being bagged the mature manure is sieved to remove any unwanted lumps, stones etc.
Gee Up Horse Manure contains a wide range of nutrients which will enrich your garden soil and improve fertility. It produces Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash as it breaks down, and improves soil structure by adding humus.
Gee Up is pH. Neutral 7.0, which means that it is suitable for all plants.
Garden Uses:
- An excellent soil improver (structure, moisture retention)
- Slow release organic fertiliser - without the 'burn risk' of fresh manure
- Ideal for roses, hostas, herbaceous perennials, clematis and shrubs, helping to maintain consistent moisture around the roots
- Maintenance and Mulching: Spread the manure evenly after clearing potato beds or tidying up/weeding beds in autumn
- A thick layer of mulch helps to retain moisture in the summer months
- Preparing polytunnel soil in advance of planting
- Add to pots, containers or hanging baskets when planting - particularly hungrier plants
Delivery is Kerbside delivery. We don't guarantee the bag can be left within the boundary of your property. If we can't access your driveway the bag will be left at the closest point possible.
The soil is delivered in cubic metre bags placed on a wooden pallet. The soil can only go as close to your site as the hand operated pallet truck allows. The truck is not equipped with a grab so bags cannot be lifted over walls or hedges.
While the delivery driver will do his best to get the bag as close as he can to your property he is unable to move the bag over kerbs, up an incline or on loose gravel surfaces. Remember the bag is extremely heavy and once off the truck is moved by the effort of the driver alone.
Truck Sizes – It is important to note that our Delivery trucks can be quite large. If you are expecting them to be able to get through your gate the gate will need to be at least 3.5 metres wide
Your laneway would have to have overhead coverage of minimum 5metres with no overhanging trees or cables. The trucks are 18 tonne Rigid trucks that are 12m long, 2.5m wide and 4.1m high.
If you are unsure about access to your property please call us beforehand to discuss.
IMPORTANT: If you refuse delivery because of an access issue to your property which we have not been made aware of beforehand, your order will be refunded less a €55.00 collection charge per bulk bag. Please read the above delivery info carefully to avoid any misunderstanding.

Instructions
When Planting:
- Remember to soak the plant well so it will slip out of the container easily.
- Dig the hole wider and deeper than the size of the container that your plant is coming out of.
- Put Gee-up in the bottom of the hole, mix in some soil. At this stage test the depth for your plant by firming down the Gee-up and soil mix and standing your plant in, still in its container.
- Add more Gee-up and soil if needed to get the level right. (Use the long handle of your fork or spade across the hole to help you judge, if you’re not sure about the level). Scoop out some if your plant sits up too high. When you are happy that this is right, slip your plant out of its container.
- If there are many and congested roots, very gently tease out some loose ends, without breaking them.
Place the plant so that the top of the compost from the container will be the very same as the level of the new ground. - A little water in the bottom of the hole now ensures moisture right at the bottom, not too much as it would become difficult and messy to make the plant firm in the ground.
- Fill in the hole with equal parts Gee-up and soil until level with the surface. Then stand gently but firmly all around the plant while holding it upright. Don’t be afraid to firm the plant into its’ new ground with your foot. It must not be able to move. Stake if necessary.
- Top up again to ground level with the same mix. Water thoroughly. Finally finish with a mulch of Gee-up around the surface. Stand back and admire!
What is Gee-up suitable for?
Traditionally horse manure is renowned for roses and rhubarb! All plants will benefit with this good nourishment, especially plants that need a rich soil and moisture around the roots.
Examples: Vegetable growing, roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas, magnolias, clematis, hostas, fuchsias, delphiniums... the list is endless
To get a new plant established, it helps to give the roots some goodness to get into.
If spread over moist ground as a mulch it will help to lock in the moisture for those dry periods we have from time to time. The worms will slowly draw it down into the soil.
How do you use Gee-up?
Mix half and half with your soil when planting, also spread deeply as a mulch.
When should I use Gee-up?
All year round, especially in spring and autumn. A good thick mulch helps to retain moisture in the summer months.
Can it be used in hanging baskets?
Yes it is excellent mixed with soil or compost as it provides slow release nutrients and also helps to retain moisture.
Will it burn my plants?
Absolutely not! Gee-up is carefully composted and therefore is well rotted, it won’t damage your plants like fresh manure would.
What else is in the bag?
It is just the horse manure and stable bedding composted naturally.
What is the coverage for mulching?
2 x 18kg bags will cover an area of 1 square metre to a depth of approx. 8 centimetres.
1 cubic metre covers 12.5 square metres to a depth of apps. 7.5 centimetres.
