Description
Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi is native to the island of Madagascar, it is a shrub size succulent if allowed to grow large but can also be grown as a miniature in an indoor display. The scalloped leaves are grey green with red margins which will turn pink if the plant is dry and in strong sunlight. Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi works especially well as a potted plant on a sunny windowsill. Flowers are interesting, they are numerous orange tubular type bells that hang in clusters from tall stems in late winter/early spring.
Succulents need a free draining soil mix. Plants don’t like being too wet so keep on the dry side, the best method is to soak periodically letting the mix dry completely between waterings. They will be happiest in full sun to partial shade but avoid drastic changes e.g. in a south facing window in summer. In winter put them in the brightest window in your home. Remove any dead leaves from the base of the plant as they can be a haven for pests or fungal disease which may kill the plant.
Kalanchoe are easily propagated from leaves or stem cuttings.
