About Fencing
Garden Fencing
Garden fencing is an integral part of any garden design. Fences can add elements of privacy, security and an extra aesthetic appeal to any home or garden. There are many types available, including those made from wood, concrete, and plastic/composite materials, each with their own pros and cons. We stock a range of garden posts, fencing panels, and gates as well as a large range of hedges and hedging products for growing your own living fence. If you've been following us for a while, you know that we tend to favour timber structures, we have also started stocking a UV stabilised, composite fence panel made from 70% recycled material with a galvanised post system (more on this system below).
When it comes to privacy, good garden fencing can block the view from neighbours and passersby. This is ideal if you like to enjoy outdoor living in your own garden in peace, and is especially important if you have a home sauna or hot tub out the back. A fence also provides extra security, keeping unwanted animals or visitors out of your garden. With so many designs and shapes available, there is always a fence to complement your home and garden design.
Fencing Panels
A fence panel is a pre-made length of fencing that is ready to be attached to a garden post. Attaching many together around your garden creates a fence. Panels are available in many different styles and from various materials. They are quite affordable and very easy to install, maintenance is also minimised. Our fencing panels have solid construction with mortice and tenon jointing and galvanized rust resisitant screws. They are pressure treated for long life, this gives a natural colour to the timber. All the wood used in our decorative and standard fence panels have been treated after they are cut and before being assembled into a panel. This ensures the preservative is protecting all parts of the timber, not just the bits you can see. No further treatment is needed but you can paint or stain any of our timber panels if a different colour or finish is required.
Durapost Fencing System
Durapost is a new, maintenance free fencing system that is very strong yet lightweight and easy to install. Durapost fencing systems are made from galvanised cold rolled steel that combine the strength of steel with the light-weight properties of aluminum. Much lighter than traditional timber or concrete fence post systems, these can easily be moved and fitted by one person, speeding up and simplifying the installation process. Along with being light and easy to install, durapost fences have a much longer life than wooden alternatives. Durapost posts are designed to exactly fit timber fence panels, which are attached through pre-drilled holes. They can be used with any traditional wooden fence panels and boards as well as the DuraPost brand composite 70% recycled plastic panels available in 4 different finishes that will complement any garden or outdoor space: standard galvanised, anthracite grey, sepia brown or olive grey. If timber fence panels are being used, the Durapost system features composite gravel boards to keep timber off the ground and prevent rot. The DuraPost range also includes post caps, capping rails, door kits and a wide range of accessories to suit any fencing application.
The fence post system is relatively maintenance free and won't rot, crack, split, or chip. They are guaranteed by the manufacturer up to 25 years and can be fully recycled at end-of-life making it a sustainable product. The composite fence panels are UV stabilised and will easily last 15+ years. DuraPost can be sunk in the soil and secured with our 'Postmix' just-add-water concrete or can be fixed to any hard surface using the 'Bolt Down Bracket'. Posts are available in 1.8 or 2.4 metre heights. The 2.4m is used for a standard 1.8m high fence (60cm is buried in the ground) while the 1.8m post is used for a low, 1.2m high fence or for a 1.8m high fence where the 'bolt down' option is used.
Hedging
Hedging or a row of trees can complement a length of fence and add a natural, organic border to your property. They are very low maintenance and provide much needed shade in the summer as well as a convenient habitat for wildlife. When paired with a length of fencing, the effect can be remarkable. Evergreen hedging plants such as Laurel, Cotoneaster Francheti, and Griselinia Littoralis, are great for marking a boundary and providing privacy all year round. Laurels in particular make a striking screening hedge. We supply a wide range of bare root hedging plants to transform any lawn or garden in style.
Green Walls
Vertical gardening, or green walls, are an easy way to maximise space and add greenery to any corner of the garden. Any wall or fence can be converted into a green wall with the right equipment. With a fence, there are a few easy ways to make it green. Adding planters or hanging baskets directly on to it is one option, the easiest way though, is to attach a trellis
using cable ties or twine and let your climbing plants grow up it (growing ivy in this fashion is known as a green facade). You can create your own trellis handy enough with lengths of timber or rods. There are many methods and they are endlessly customisable to fit your own garden and preferences.
