Description
Phormiums (New Zealand Flax) are great for adding focal points to planting schemes where their spiky, architectural shapes draw the eye. This is especially true in winter when phormiums really come into their own. When all around is devoid of colour phormiums retain their eye catching leaves which can range from golden yellow to fiery reds and oranges.
Phormiums are generally easy to grow and will withstand harsh weather, many are particularly tolerant of salt winds so make excellent seaside plants even in the most exposed locations where little else will grow. Most varieties are suitable for both container growing and open planting.
