Cranberry 'Pilgrim' produces juicy dark red berries with a tart flavour traditionally used for making cranberry sauce but also delicious in preserves or fruit pies.

Pilgrim cranberries need the same growing conditions as their wild counterparts. They grow in moorland and need a well drained acidic soil of between PH 4.0 and 5.5. Plant in Autumn or Spring. If your soil is alkaline cranberries can be grown very successfully in containers using and ericaceous compost.

The plants look healthy and were planted within a week since the weather this winter is very mild. Cannot comment on the crop, since they will take another couple of years to do so. Looking foreward to more new plants and seeds to tru out. Thanks! Linda and Vincent

Do you need to grow 2 plants near each other in order to get fruit?

Hi Maureen No. One plant on its own will self pollinate however getting the soil right for Cranberries is very important. So just make sure to follow the guidelines for how best to plant Cranberries. This is all on our blog Niall Quickcrop

Hi, I would like to know when is the best time of year to plant a cranberry bush? Thanks in advance

Hi Kathy. Autumn is the best time to put any bare root fruit in the ground as the roots get nicely established over the winter and you get much better growth in early Spring. This allows the plant to get well established for fruit growth in summer.
