A pale green grass that makes a stiff, wiry clump rather than a grass that waves in the breeze. Seseleria autumnal is a cool season plant which puts on growth in spring and autumn but sends up wiry flower stalks in summer headed with elongated flower spikes. In autumn and mild winters the foliage takes on a bright, lime green colour adding interest to the winter garden.
Goes well with:
Flowers - Allium cristophii (ornamnetal onion), Sedum ‘Matrona’ (ice plant)
Grasses - Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Goldtau’ (tufted hair grass)
Care of Sesleria autumnalis
Will not appreciate wet ground in winter. Cut back in late winter to encourage new growth and help maintain a tidy habit.
