A Favourite Heirloom Aubergine Seed

Black Beauty is a very popular heirloom variety of aubergine, producing an excellent yield of large purple pear shaped fruits. Best grown under glass or in a polytunnel. Aubergines are also called eggplant and the entire fruit (stem excluded) is edible, from the smooth flesh to the soft seeds. Aubergines can be cooked with the skin on or off, with many reckoning the skin adds structure and seals in flavours.

Black Beauty variety are early maturing and reliably give high yields of top quality fruit.

A great variety just be aware that it takes Aubergines under cover in Yorkshire almost 9 months to grow to full maturity. Otherwise fantastci variety.

I had very little experience growing a semi tropical plant before and I always loved eggplant. Good to see an Irish company doing some unusual varieties. Put five seeds in even spaced patches and around three quarters of them bloomed into delicious aubergines. Far tastier than the supermarket variety and you really can taste the difference.

Hi Jaime In our climate Aubergines need to be grown indoors in a soil that has a lot of compost mixed in as they are very hungry crops Niall Quickcrop

In my greenhouse. I think I now know the problem, the plants have a very fine white mesh-like growth over the leaves. I have removed the plants and let my hens at them in revenge!

Hi Peter. Sorry to hear you have had to give up on your Aubergines, they can be tricky to grow as they need to be started off very early and need a lot of pampering along the way!

My plants grew well but when the fruit begins to form after the flower it rapidly turns rotten and falls off! What am I doing wrong?

Hi Peter. Can I ask where you are growing your Aubergines?
