Used to cover raised beds for winter; great to be able to get in different widths to suit beds, need to take care with cut edges to stir fraying. We cut ours a little longer to fold over, but did think of taping but thought it would come off over the winter. All tidy now and ready for winter!

what is the pore size for this product?
Answered by Andrew
on June 23rd, 2020
Hi kathleen. This product is a woven mat that allows water to permeate but it doesn't have a pore size as such, the moisture is just able to move through the weave. If you hold the material up you will not see holes in the product.

Is this material suitable to line a raised bed and prevent tree roots from pushing up into the (lovely improved) soil of my veg bed. This is a real problem at my allotment which has large trees about 10 meters away.

Hi Cathy Mypex is perfect for stopping roots coming up in to fresh soil. However with really well established trees with very strong roots it might be an idea to put 2 layers in the beds for extra protection. Niall Quickcrop

Hi I am interested in this product. Do you also sell staples to secure in the ground. Ones I have from usual garden centre won’t go into compacted ground I want to cover. Thanks

Hi Alison We do indeed. If you put the word Staple in to the search bar you will find what you need. They are very strong and perfect for holding mypex down as the bridge across the top of the staples is nice and wide Regards Niall Quickcrop

I bought some Mypex sheet from you for a raised strawberry bed. It looks fine but water seems to sit on the surface. I thought it was meant to be water permeable - is there a right and wrong way up for it?
Answered by Niall

Hi Alan Mypex allows water down through it so it certainly shouldn't be pooling on the top of it in any way. You will get some water sitting on the surface but minimal amounts. Unless of course it is waterlogged underneath and the water can't get away Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi, I'm interested in this product. How environmentally friendly is it please? What material is it made from ? Kind regards
Answered by Andrew

Hi Helen. It is made woven plastic which lasts about 10/12 years if used each year in your garden. Then it starts to break up. It does not harm the soil and is resistant to UV rays.

Andrew, thanks for all the info. We are going to go with the membrane so we can nourish the soil ready for next year and give us a year to think and plan it properly! We have measured the area and will need the biggest piece, it is about 100 euro, can this be cut and shaped around a tree? Thanks, sorry to keep asking questions! Nearly there! Rozz

Hi Rozz. Yes, you can cut it to fit around a tree but will need to cut a slit to the edge of the piece. Make sure you get plenty of landscaping staples as edges and cut pieces need to be held securely, we do packs of 100 for €28.50. https://www.quickcrop.ie/product/ground-cover-fabric-staples I hope this helps. Thanks, we have a 9 X 12m plot so a lot of it is needed. i really hope it is easy to use before I order. Does it need weighing down with rocks or how does it work? Does it roll up again for the following winter? I do not like spraying either..Maybe, it is better to just get a couple of raised beds in and keep gravel or some grass grown around it? I don't want to spend loads of cash on membrane and then put raised beds in anyway..What do suggest for a confused but enthusiastic gardener like me?

Hi Rozz. I think I would start off with raised beds to see how you like it. Leaving the rest in grass is the easiest option if you thought you might like to add more beds in the future. If you are a first time vegetable grower raised beds are by far the easiest option as regards maintenance and I would probably recommend them for the long term also. I hope this helps. Andrew

Hi, I have a 9 x 12m plot that we recently got cleared. We want to plant veg next year but want to avoid weeds, which have already started! Should we buy weed membrane to cover whole plot? Is the membrane strong enough to use again and again? Or is it more cost effective to spray weeds dead? But, that will take up a lot of time? What do you think? Rozz

Hi Rozz. Yes you can use Mypex a number of times. I personally don't like spraying as I son't like adding chemicals to the soil. If I were preparing a plot for next year I would add a layer of manure or garden compost and cover the area with mypex. You should have a lovely plot to sow and plant into next Spring. I hope this helps. Andrew
