Another great book from author and journalist Alys Fowler. In this book Alys offers information and advice on how to make the most of what you grow. Including detailed explanations on how best to harvest and store home grown foods so they keep far better than shop bought fruit and vegetables. Alys ably details the various methods of growing, harvesting, drying, jamming, pickling, fermenting, bottling and freezing all with delicious recipes. Whether you have a balcony, small backyard, allotment or large country garden there are plenty of useful tidbits in this book for you. Makes a great gardening gift.

Alys has everything a good practical book needs with a deep knowledge of her subject coupled with wit and charm that makes this volume a very easy read. One of her earliest memories is sucking nectar from clover flowers under the watchful eye of her mother who ignited and nurtured her passion for foraging. I've met her on a number of occasions so I'm a bit biased here (she's great fun) but I can tell you she's the real deal. This isn't a manufactured book on a trendy subject but a true reference book packed with useful and practical information.

This book takes a fresh look at foraging, encouraging you to look closer to home, from the weeds in your garden to the trees in your street, rather than the fields and hedgerows of the countryside. I bought this book and sent it over to a friend of mine in the UK. They really enjoyed going out and foraging for themselves in the country side as a family day out. The pictures and descriptions of all the plants that you can eat were easy to follow and they promise they will have a jar of jam waiting for me when I visit.
