Description
Broccoli Raab or 'Rapini' is a fast-growing crop that can grow to about 17 inches tall. Although it certainly has a similar appearance to sprouting broccoli, it is a close relation to turnip and is sometimes referred to as Turnip Broccoli. The flavour is somewhere between broccoli and spinach with a hint of mustard.
It is a leafy plant that can be harvested in a 'cut and come again' manner; the flavour will be sweeter when picked young. Raab is also suitable for succession sowing. Florets, leaves and stalk are all edible; it's delicious stir fried with garlic and is very popular in Chinese and Mediterranean cuisine.
Later sowings will need some protection from the flea beetle.
