Description
The Field Maple is a moderate size deciduous tree in the maple family, it is similar to the common sycamore but with fissured cork-like bark and a more compact habit. The Field Maple is native to the UK and Ireland and is often planted as an understorey component to ash and beech woodland.
The leaves are most attractive in Autumn with rich orange and yellow hues before the leaves fall. Like it's larger cousin, the Filed Maple also produces a sweet sap in Spring which can be used to make maple syrup.
