Description
This plant is grown in our nursery and comes well established. Peppermint is a common mint hybrid which is a cross between water mint and spearmint. A perennial that spreads from the roots. The leaves are smaller than spearmint with a darker green colour.
It is advised to grow mint in containers or small planters as this will rapidly spread and take over if planted out.
Mint likes partial shade and moist conditions. Keep watered but it doesn't like being waterlogged.
Pinch out regularly to encourage growth. Like basil pinch above a pair of leaves. When harvesting you can remove up to 2/3 of the plant.
Mint can be useful to deter pests.
Peppermint has a strong menthol flavour and has a wide range of uses. It can be used for herbal teas by itself or in an infusion. It can be used for syrup which can flavour ice cream, smoothies, drinks and icing. It is also used to make oil extract which is in shampoos/soaps and skin care products.
This plant comes in a P9 pot and is ready to plant out. P9 pots are 9cm in diameter and are commonly used by professional horticulturists.
It can also be purchased as part of our 'choose your own' herb products at a reduced price (see recommended products below).
