Lead time
Please be aware that there is currently an 8 week lead time on all glasshouses due to high demand. This will be the same for any Vitavia greenhouse supplier in Ireland.
Sizes
Please see the table below for sizes and spec of Neptune greenhouses. All neptune models have an Eaves Height of 1.35m (4’5″) and a Ridge Height of 2.3m (7’7″).
A quality greenhouse, 2.57m (8’5”) wide with a single, sliding door with a simple lever mechanism to hold it in any desired position.
Corner plates at both eaves and ridge, together with roof and side braces, give this building improved strength. Available in 4 sizes and with higher eaves (1.35m/4’5”) than usually associated with this type of greenhouse, the Neptune (Merkur) also has the Vitavia standard gutter.
All Neptune (Merkur) models have been approved by the TÜV Standards Authority.
The complete Vitavia range is available in both Powder Coated Green or *Anodised Aluminium (*Anodisation is a process the aluminum goes through to keep it looking pristine throughout its life)
Does the Neptune greenhouse need a base?
Yes, we recommend using a base for all greenhouses because the sliding door runner needs to be slightly raised off the ground. We supply a base kit for the Neptune range which you will see in the 'related products' link at the bottom of the page. A DIY base can also be constructed using pressure treated timber battens, railway sleepers or masonry. The only Vitavia Greenhouses that do not require a base are the 'Apollo' and the 'Phoenix' models.
Neptune Assembly Service
Please note that greenhouses ordered for installation MUST include the separate base kit.
We provide an assembly service if required. Our Vitavia greenhouse expert will deliver and assemble your new greenhouse in a suitable location in your garden. Assembly prices may vary depending on the site but typical rates for Neptune greenhouses are as follows: 8ft x 8ft = €300.00, 8ft x 10ft = €330.00, 8ft x 12ft = €370.00, 8ft x 15ft = €400.00. Please conatct andrew@quickcrop.com for details. We regret that our assembly service covers Rep. of Ireland only.
Horticultural or toughened glass?
The difference between horticultural or toughened glass is weight and how the materail handles when shattered.
Horticultural glass
Horticultural glass or greenhouse glass has traditionally been relatively low grade both in thickness and the overall quality of the panes. This does not make it a bad product because we don't necessarily need high quality glass for horticultural applications, it still provides protection and lets in plenty of light which, after all, is all we need it for. The downside from a safety point of view is that it is more brittle and shatters into shards when broken. In my opionon, horticultural glass is perfectly fine for a reasonably shetlered glasshouse in a suburban setting but should not be used in exposed areas or where young children are regularly playing.
Toughened glass
Toughened or safety glass is more costly than horticultural grade but is 10 times stronger and, when broken, shatters into very small pieces in the same manner as a car window. We would recommend that toughened glass is used in any exposed location and where safety is a concern.
