Joraform Compost Tumblers

The Joraform compost tumblers are the pinacle of compost bin design and can break down material incredibly quickly due to the high levels of heat built up inside the unit. Another big advantage is you can add meat and fish waste into the mix which all breaks down into rich garden compost. These composters are odour free and do not attract pests or rodents. While they are expensive, they are definitely the best compost bins for speed and ease of use. We recommend using a wood pellet or wood shavings mixed with the rest of the material to absorb moisture and create usable compost in record time.

Joraform compost tumblers recycle home and garden waste much faster than other compost bins. They take up little room and emit no odours, the composter can be left free-standing or bolted to the side of a house, shed, or fence. Because they are fully enclosed systems, they are pest and rodent resistant. These compost tumblers can also be called digesters as they work like a mechanical stomach that literally digests the organic matter fed into it. There are two sizes of these composters; the JK125 or 'Little Pig', and the JK270 or 'Big Pig'. The JK125 measures 95cm x 83cm and can recycle up to 1.5kg of waste into compost per day. The JK270 measures 116cm x 88.6cm and can recycle up to 2.5kg of waste into compost per day.

How It Works
The Little Pig and Big Pig both work the same, they are so well insulated that temperatures inside the bin can easily reach around 70 degrees centigrade, regular compost bins can reach an average temperature of 55 degrees Centigrade. At such a high temperature the micro-organisms work faster and harder and streamline the home composting process. These high temperatures achieve what is known as hygienic composting as contents are broken down so much faster. Even on a mild day you will see steam rising off the contents of a Jora composter. They are easy to rotate - simply turn by hand after adding waste, fresh waste is brought into direct contact with decaying waste and the side vents add air to the mixture, providing oxygen that is vital for the process. The digester is divided into two compartments to facilitate continuous use. When the first compartment is full (after approx. 6 weeks) it is covered with a metal plate (provided). When the second compartment is full, the contents of the first are ready to use, this will be a nice rich compost for the garden.

Joraform compost tumblers have a durable, rust proof galvanized steel construction. The exterior is made up of galvanized, powder coated steel panels and the insulation used is 2.16 inch thick polyethylene - a stable, non-toxic plastic commonly used in gardening. The stand is made from galvanized steel also.

What can I compost?
These rotating composters will easily compost the materials as any other compost heap, but the higher temperatures also allow it to break down previously uncompostable waste like cooked meat and fish waste. Green Materials such as; grass clippings , fruit and vegetable peelings, green leaves, farm animal manure, kitchen scraps (including meat and fish!), green garden debris. Brown materials such as newspaper, straw, hay, cardboard, eggshells, wood shavings, and hedge clippings.
Do not compost: coal or peat ashes, glossy magazines, larger woody material, diseased plants or produce.

wood pellets for joraform rotatin compost binsWood Pellets (Brown Material)
There are usually plenty of vegetable peelings and other kitchen waste as well as green garden waste available but many people find it difficult to gather enough brown material for their composters which results in a foul smelling sludge like compost. Adding more dry brown material allows air through the heap and keeps the composting process going. We supply natural, preservative and adhesive free wood pellets in large 15kg bags which should keep you going for a while. The pellets add a much needed source of carbon to compost bins that process higher percentages of  kitchen waste like the Joraform rotating composters do. Good composting requires a balance of nitrogen and carbon to create the temperatures that destroy weed seeds and pathogens. Simply throw in a handful of pellets when adding material to your compost bin.
