The Perfect Starter Raised Bed Kit

This is an ideal little starter raised bed kit for growing herbs and salad. Designed to be an affordable starter bed if you want to give 'grow your own' a try for very little expense. The Classic 7 inch high raised bed is best placed on prepared soil for larger plants but can be used on a hard surface for growing shallow rooted salads. An ideal raised bed for school gardens with a cloche also available to suit.

Just because we call these 'Starter Raised Beds' or 'Beds for Beginner Gardeners' does not mean they are limited to the novice vegetable gardener. These beds are the perfect size for greenhouses and polytunnels and allow a more efficient use of space than rows or grow bags and various sized vegetable planters. Square raised bed kits are a nice neat way to keep all your vegetables in a row and a long row of these raised beds looks very professional in the garden or tunnel.

This classic raised bed is 4 foot squared and comes in a flatpack kit with all the screws and instructions necessary for construction.

If you wish to grow deep root crops like carrots, parsnips or potatoes we recommend the 14inch high bed. It is the perfect size for any garden as well as for greenhouses, allotments and polytunnels. As mentioned above this is a great raised bed for school gardens or for the beginner gardener, it can be assembled in minutes and can be placed anywhere. Two or more of these beds can be screwed together to create even bigger growing environments. Click for more info on raised beds.

Easy to assemble and good quality. Perfect for the home grower.

It you look at the instruction video above as well as the printed instructions which come with the package, this comes with 8 planks of wood as two are assembled together to form this particular bed. However we received 4 planks of wood. The wood itself is worn and looks nothing like the wood on the photo. Customer service appalling, refuses to acknowledge the content of their own video and instructions. No refund offered. Dishonest, waste of time. Avoid at all costs.

I bought a number of these and they are very basic, just 4 boards, corners and screws. wood has a slightly rough finish but good quality, plenty good enough for what I want them for. Delivery was quickbut I would have liked more warning before they come.
August 14th, 2018
I ordered 1 to make sure it was OK, then 4 more. Have only just assembled the first 2. I was a bit worried about there not being pre-drilled holes but decided to invest in a cordless power drill/driver (which I need anyway) and having mastered this, it's easy. They look very professional and when I've worked out how many I can reasonably fit in the vegetable area, will probably order more. Very quick and efficient delivery - in fact the delivery driver was so impressed with the quality of them he said he'd probably buy some too. If you want a perfect finish you would need to sand or plane them down but I prefer them a bit rugged. Very good value.

For the price of this, I was expecting something a lot less. This is a very good raised bed that goes together easily and stays together, which I suppose is the main consideration.

Sturdy rough wood and good value. Packs came with no screws, no pre-drilling or instructions. Would have liked notification and tracking number as delivery came totally unexpected as delivery email was totally wrong. Still good product and easy to assemble if you have handyman skills and a good battery drill/screwdriver.

Answered by Niall

Hi Jane Yes of course but if doing so it is best to use one of our liners as the soil will leech out the base without the liner Niall Quickcrop

How are they treated? What chemical is used f?
Answered by Niall
on February 27th, 2020
Hi Seamus Treated with a substance called Tanalith E which is not to be confused with the older version Tanalith which had arsenic in it. The newer version is certified by the soil association as perfectly ok to use when growing food. We can also give you the boards untreated however they will last half of the time in our climate Niall Quickcrop

Hi Liam Apologies if the video is different. The video is really just to show how to assemble them. The actual measurements are 4ft x 4ft Niall Quickcrop

Hi Quickcrop. Is the wood sourced from a sustainable source? Is it ethically sourced wood? Kind regards Leslie
Answered by Tony

Our wood is obtained from sustainably managed forestry, ethically sourced in Scandinavia.
Asked By Natalie
on March 19th, 2019
It says the wood is treated but I thought you were supposed to use untreated wood for raised beds?
Answered by Niall
on March 19th, 2019
Hi Natalie You can use untreated boards however they don't last very long in the Irish and UK climate. That is why it is important when buying wood that is treated to buy beds that have been certified as fine to use when growing food as our beds are. I hope this answers your question Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Jude Curran
on February 03rd, 2019
Does it have a bottom panel of wood or does it sit on the grass
Answered by Niall
on February 04th, 2019
Hi Jude These beds don't have a base on them and they don't need them. If you put them on the grass and turn the sod no weeds will grow up through them yet the worms will be able to come up from the bottom in to the new soil you have added which you need to aerate the soil Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Alison Duff
on January 17th, 2019
Can these be painted?
Answered by Niall
on January 17th, 2019
Hi Alison Yes they can however if you are growing food to eat in them i would use an Organic paint as most of the standard paints will leech toxics in to the soil and you certainly don't want to be eating them Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Julie Barney

your video says metre square - to me that means each panel is 39 inches and not 48 inches as indicated by 4foot square xx
Answered by Niall

Hi Julie The video is actually for a 3ft bed however the product you are looking at is indeed 4ft square or to be more precise 1.2m x 1.2m Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By G Phoenix
on June 25th, 2018
why are there no predrilled holes?
Answered by Niall
on June 26th, 2018
This item doesn't need to be pre-drilled as the wood is a soft wood that has been treated and it is very easy to drive the screws in. Pre-drilling would just add additional cost to the product Niall Quickcrop

hi, it looks like a slipper box as comer posts aren't in the ground, judging by instruction video. can you please clarify.
Answered by Niall
on April 11th, 2018
Hi Kate Due to the weight of the soil in the beds the corner posts don't need to be fixed in to the ground however if you want longer corner posts you can buy the boards and posts seperately on our Boards Quick picker. Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Elisa Baliani

Asked By Dee

Could I use 3 of these stacked on top of each other (obviously using longer corner posts) to create a 21" bed? I have in mind a 4 x 4 foot bed and a taller bed would be a great help.
Answered by Niall
on January 15th, 2018
You can of course. To achieve this you just need to order the beds through the Quickcrop Board picker so that you make sure to get the 21 inch posts to fix it all together. You can do this on the phone also if you call the office.

Hi do your raised beds come with a guarantee? I have seen a similar product with 15year guarantee.
Answered by Andrew
on September 08th, 2017
The guarantee on the allotment range is 8 years. It is 15 years on the Premier and Deluxe ranges. I would be surprised if anyone is offering a guarantee of 15 years on boards that are 20mm thick as even when treated there is no way they will last that long.
Asked By Daryl Dalziel

They can of course however it might be easier to just buy a higher version of them like the 14" bed which is essentially 2 of these on top of each other. Just buy the 4ft x 4ft version and it is the same.
