We started to put this raised bed together when we realized we had a whole packet (16) screws missing!! Very annoying as we live nowhere near a diy store so we then wasted 2 hours doing a 34 mile round trip to find screws. I see the previous reviewer had the same problem. My advice would be to check you have everything don't wait until you're ready to start assembly. We would have given 5 stars finished product looks good.

Brilliant product and service. Delivered on time and placed at the back of house. All components included. It took one and a half hours for me and my sister to put together. Would highly recommend.

Looks well, easy to put together. But missing a pack of screws. 2 of the posts have splits running through them so will have to reinforce them. Putting the metal elbows on the inside (contrary to instructions) gives a better-looking finish.

you are the 3rd supplier i have bought raised beds from over the last few years and i have to say that your Deluxe beds are the best i have bought yet. Both the look and chunkiness are great and i love the finish on them Not bad value either. Well done. Keep up the good work

What is the lead time from order to delivery?

Hi Robert For raised beds it is presently 5/7 working days but normally faster than that Niall Quickcrop

Do you need power tools to assemble the beds? Can a novice assemble the beds adequately?
Answered by Niall
on August 10th, 2020
Hi Robert Absolutely a novice can assemble one of these. It is helpful to have an electric screw gun as it will cut the time of assembly from 30 minutes to 10/15 minutes. These are not complicated at all to assemble. I am not a DIY person myself and can easily put one together in 10 minutes Niall Quickcrop

Asked By Eileen Groser
on February 24th, 2020
I am considering placing the raised bed on paving. Would it be a good idea to line the bottom few inches to keep out slugs? Presumably there is no base to the boxes. What do people do? I’m disappointed that the brackets are no longer fixed.
Answered by Niall
on February 24th, 2020
Hi Eileen When putting the beds on a patio or paving it is best to fit one of the liners. Just put the word Liner in the search bar and you will find them. It is not so much for slugs as that won't be an issue from the base but more to let the water through the bed without soil travelling with it. We supply a guide with the brackets so they are easily fitted. When we put the on the corners before delivering the couriers wouldn't take them. I am afraid that is the reason for the change Niall Quickcrop

Does the raised bed need a liner and if so what do you recommend to use
Answered by Andrew
on October 14th, 2019
Hi Hugh. You will only need a liner for the beds if you are placing it on a hard surface or have a particularly bad weed problem. We supply lining material for our bed range, please see link: https://www.quickcrop.co.uk/product/liners-for-allotment-premier-and-deluxe-raised-beds I hope this helps. Andrew

Hi Sarah. I am afraid we don't have oak raised beds available yet but we do expect to have them in stock before the end of the season. Please accept my apologies for the delay.

Answered by Niall

Hi Tesh We can make beds to whatever size you want. If you call us in the office we will be able to give you a price and the wood is treated the same as our standard beds so perfect for growing food in Niall Quickcrop

Do you need to hammer this into the ground? Or do you just put together and sit it on the ground?
Answered by Niall
on May 02nd, 2019
Hi Emma Just put it together and sit it on the ground. Once the soil is in it there will be no movement in it at all. You would have to take the soil out to move it anywhere Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Noreen Ramsay

Would these be deep enough to grow rhubarb in?
Answered by Niall
on July 12th, 2018
Hi Noreen They would of course. You actually only need to use 14 inch beds for Rhubarb as it really only needs about 10/12 inches of soil to grow in Regards Niall Quickcrop

Sorry So I order the 12ft and ask for more post -- OR -- just order the two 6x4 or the two 6x3 depending on which depth i end up choosing. Or are the post you say to get extra for the spread reason if ordering either... confusion if i can join two beds i.e. 6ft's the if i order 6ft i get 8 posts Hi Patrick The 12ft beds are made up of two 6ft beds joined together. The reason for this is exactly as you say. After a few years the soil may force the centre out and it is much stronger to have the two beds joined. We normally supply this bed with just 6 corner posts with only two needed in the centre but i am happy to supply you with 8 for future flexibility. Just let me know the order number so i can inform the warehouse. Regards Niall Quickcrop
Answered by Andrew
on June 11th, 2018
Hi Patrick The 12 foot bed only needs 6 x posts. Unless you want two raised beds with a gap in the middle there is no advantage to 2 x extra posts and gable ends. You are only paying extra for timber that is not giving you any benefit. I would recommend ordering the 12ft bed. I hope this helps. Andrew

Hi I am looking at the 12ft by 3ft or 4ft I was wondering is this one item i.e. (the 12 x 3ft or 4ft) or is it two (6x3) or two(6x4ft)beds items I am asking as :- well for a few reason thinking ahead for future flexibility etc... 1st Will the 12ft x 4ft or 3ft spread in the middle section with the weight of the Soil as it is longer than 6ft versions 2nd If I was to move the bed locations in the future considering they last 10 years of more and garden designs change can the (6x4) or (6x3) beds be joined together to make 12ft beds in the deluxe and if so I could do this or separate later. Where as if I buy the 12ft long version am I stuck with 12ft -- So is it better to get the 2 - (6x4) or 2 - (6x3) if they are join-able making 12ft long. 3rd I like the deluxe bed it look nicer but seems harder to joint as post and sticking out hence the 2nd question and so i would like the deluxe but in 12ft if i can join 6ft's So it is hard to decide as two 6ft's would (1) maybe not spread a

What are the boards treated with, is it a wood treatment, if so which one? Might be good to keep the same treatment going if going to invest in the 10 year beds. Do you sell untreated boards?
Answered by Niall
on April 19th, 2018
Hi Catherine They are treated with a product called Tanalith E (not to be confused with the nastier Tanalith). It is certified by the Soil Association for using when growing food and it adds years to the life of the wood. We don't presently sell untreated boards however we will be doing so in the next few months. Probably untreated Oak to start with. Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Julie
on February 14th, 2018
I shall soon be purchasing some of your deluxe raised beds. Do you recommend treating the outside of the assembled units with fence paint, to prolong the life?
Answered by Niall
on February 15th, 2018
Hi Julie. There is no need to do that as they are pre-treated to last in the weather we get. You can of course paint them if you want from a visual perspective just be careful if you do this to order liners for the beds as you don't want any of the components from the paint to make there way in to the soil. Particularly if you are growing your own food.
Asked By Heather
on February 08th, 2018
Would these be suitable for bamboo plants?
Answered by Niall
on February 08th, 2018
The would indeed Heather. That said i don't think you would need very deep beds for Bamboo so the 9 inch beds might be sufficient.
Asked By James Skinner
on October 25th, 2017
Does putting the metal fixings on the inside to 'hide' them rather than outside affect the structural soundness of the beds?
Answered by Andrew
on October 26th, 2017
Hi James. Not really as they are fixed in four places so plenty of strength to hold the boards in place over the years. A number of our customers have put them together this way.
Asked By Geoff Cooper
on May 09th, 2017
i am looking to purchase 2 6' x 6' deluxe beds but am unsure as to depth. I want to grow all types of vegetables, do I need 21" or will 14" be sufficient?
Answered by Andrew
on May 09th, 2017
Hi Geoff. In a 14 inch bed the soil will settle to 12 inches and in that depth of soil you can grow any crop you want. Even root crops like Potatoes, Carrots, Parsnips etc. The only reason to go to 21 inches or above is it is slightly easier to work out. That said it takes a lot more soil to fill.
Asked By Eithne mulhern
on May 30th, 2016
Are they easy to assemble
Answered by Andrew
on May 31st, 2016
Hi Eithne. The Deluxe raised bed is very easy to assemble. The galvanized brackets are already fixed to the corner posts so all you need to do is line up the boards and screw them in. I hope this helps. Andrew
Asked By Julie Lomas
on May 20th, 2016
I am starting my first vegetable gardening. I am interested in a 2x Deluxe 21" 6x4 beds. How much soil will it take to fill to maximum depth? 1 tonne for the two beds? I would like to mix with your compost - would I need a bag for each bed?
Answered by Andrew
on May 23rd, 2016
Hi Julie. Thank you for your question. The 21" beds 6ft x 4ft take a lot of soil to fill and to be honest need 1150 litres of soil to fill each one. That said you only need good growing compost in the top 12" as in this depth of soil you can grow any crop. Each of the tonne bags we supply is 850litres

Asked By Ian
on May 07th, 2016
if I got a 6x4 raised bed, how many litres of soil would I need to fill it.
Answered by Andrew
on May 10th, 2016
Hi Ian. The 6ft x 4ft x 14" high bed takes 790 litres of soil to fill it. The 1 tonne bags we sell fit this perfectly.
Asked By Robert
on February 06th, 2016
Would you suggest lining the beds if they are going on to a soil/clay base? I am thinking of using 2 x 6x4 21" deluxe beds. Thank you.
Answered by Andrew
on February 08th, 2016
Thank you for your question Robert. You don't need a bottom liner for raised beds that are going on to soil and it is better not to have one. This will help the worms etc come up through your bed and aerate the soil. Also any of our beds over 14" will have deep enough soil for not weeds to come up through.
Asked By Mrs Scate
on March 05th, 2015
hi please can you tell me how long you anticipate the premier raised beds will last versus the deluxe raised beds? Do you suggest they are lined if placed on patio? Thank you.
Answered by Andrew
on March 06th, 2015
Hi Mrs Scate Both the Premier and the Deluxe beds will last over 10 years, they use the same timber. I would suggest using a piece of mypex liner for the beds if used on a patio as it will prevent soil being washed out through any spaces between the patio and the base of the bed (if the patio isn't completely level). I hope this helps Andrew
