2 Tier Raised Bed Kit

In a nutshell....

The 2 tier Raised Bed Kit consists of a raised central area with two lower tiers in a back to back configuration. The bed takes up a space of 6ft by 8ft and provides 48 square feet of growing space.

Bed Height

  • A smart stacked raised bed featuring split levels for growing a wide range of vegetable crops.
  • Features 48 sq feet of growing space.
  • Requires only 6ft x 8ft square available space.
  • Pressure treated timber protected against rot.
  • Square foot vegetable planting plans available.
  • Perfect for an urban garden where space is at a premium.
  • Supplied in an easy to assemble flatpack kit with all fixings included.
  • Soil/compost mix available to fill.

Our 2 tier urban garden raised bed kit is made up of two central 2 tier 6ft x 4ft sections placed back to back to form an attractive stepped bed. This kit is available at two height options depending on your requirements. The lower version moves from a 7 inch to a 14 inch high tier and is suitable for shallow rooted salad crops in the lower section up to deeper rooted or more demanding crops in the 14 inch high upper level. The 4ft square corner beds are also the full 14 inches high giving a total of 24 square feet deep growing space and 24 square foot of shallow 7 inch high growing space.

The taller version is the same design except with 24 square feet of 21 inch deep growing space and 24 square foot of 14 inch growing space. We recommend the deeper bed for growing deep root crops like carrots and parsnips especially if the bed is to be placed on a hard surface like a garden patio.

Volume of soil required : 7/14 takes 1,180 litres to fill and the 14/21 takes 1,980 litres

How much soil would be needed to fill the 7/14 inch version of this?

Hi Louise The 7/14 inch bed takes 1,180 litres to fill from top to bottow. However you can use gravel or old spent soil in the base and the better quality veg mix in the top 10 inches of the higher tier Niall Quickcrop

Is the wood planed please ? Do we need to do a lot of smoothing it before small children can be near it ? Thanks. MM.

Hi Madelyn All of our wood is planed so no need to bring out the sanding machine for this Niall Quickcrop

If I put this on a lawn, would I need to dig up the grass first, or would it be OK to leave under the soil, if I was growing veg?
Answered by Niall

Hi Tina. Due to the depth of this bed there is no need to dig up the grass. With 14 inches of soil nothing can grow up through this so the grass will just die off in time and the worms will break up the soil and make there way up in to the new soil that you add to the beds.

Is the wood preserved or treated? If so, are all preservatives or treatment chemicals non toxic and approved by the soil Association>

Hi Denise. The timber is preserved with Tanalith E which is a copper based preservative. It is certified safe for use with food crops once it has been allowed to dry after treatment. All our timber had been drying for approx 4 weeks before dispatch.

Hello, we are thinking of getting the taller version of this for a starter veggie garden. Approx how much soil will it take to fill? also it is sited on a concrete slab do we need to pop gravel in the bottom for drainage?

Hi Kate. Sorry for the late answer to your question. You will need 1980 litres of soil to fill this bed design. I would use a liner on a concrete base but there is no need to fill with gravel.
