Hot Colours Perennial Border
Our Hot Colour Perennial Border contains a carefully chosen range of plants covering the 'warm' side of the colour wheel. Plants have been chosen for their blend of colours but also to provide interest with different heights and textures. We have arranged the border in a plan to give a balanced view from the from of a flower bed approx 3.5m x 1.4m. Plants are supplied in 90mm diameter pots. Plants are delivered in courier proof recyclable horticultural packs and will arrive in perfect condition. Please see sample planting plan below.
Achillea ‘Terracotta’
Height and spread: 1m high, 50-100cm spread
Common name: Yarrow
Position in the garden: full sun
Soil type: moist but well-drained soil
Flowering period: June to September
Hardiness: fully hardy
Achillea is best suited to the back of a border due to its height, but this excellent variety has large
flat plate like heads of terracotta flowers. Flowers are long lasting and it is very attractive to
bees and insects. The flowers on this variety are a strong terracotta colour that fades beautifully as the flower ages.

Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’
Height and spread: 100-110cm high, 50-60cm spread
Common name: montbretia
Position in the garden: full sun or partial shade
Soil type: moderately fertile, well-drained soil
Flowering period: August and September
Hardiness: frost hardy corms
The plant has strong sword like green foliage and arching stems of vibrant orange to red funnel like
flowers. It will form a clump which can be divided after a number of years. This plant is ideal for the
back of a border, does not require stalking.
Crocosmia ‘Emily Mc Kenzie’
Height and spread: 50-60cm high, 20cm spread

Soil type: moderately fertile, well-drained soil
Flowering period: August to October
Hardiness: frost hardy corms
This more delicate crocosmia has more open flowers bright orange flowers on arching stems and
strap like foliage, no need for staking. Flowering time from late summer onwards.

From a rosette of base leaves the plant will produce masses of bright red semi double flowers from
June through to August.
Kniphofia Red Hot Popsicle
Height and spread: 65cm high, 45cm spread
Common name: red hot pokers
Position in the garden: full sun or partial shade
Soil type: moist but well drained soil
Flowering period: July to August
Hardiness: fully hardy herbaceous perennial
This clump forming perennial has a compact habit and narrow green grass like leaves. The red
flowers are long lasting add a dash of drama to the garden and compliment well with ornamental
grasses. Dead head after flowering to prolong the flowering period.
Lupins red

Soil type: moderately fertile, well-drained, acid, chalky or neutral soil
Flowering period: June to July
Hardiness: fully hardy, hardy perennial
Numerous spikes of neat flowers on these plants make them ideal for the border. Protect from slugs
and snails until established. Staking may be required. Cut back old stems to encourage a second
flush of flowers later in the summer.
Rudbeckia fulgida var. Goldstrum

Large bright yellow daisy like flowers, the flower centre is cone shaped and black in colour, hence
the common name black eyed Susan. Attractive to bees and insects.
