    Joraform compost tumbler jk270

This composter is rigid and a practical solution for the composting food and garden waste. Although it comes flat-packed, it is easy to put together with step by step guide on you tube. I would suggest taking all out of the boxes and checking all pets prior to installation. It is ite heavy and would take two people to securely fit together safely. Although I have recently purchased the item, I have already seen the rapidity of the product in compostable materials. Although there is some odour initially when agitating it (by turning ) this quickly dissipates. Because it is above ground and well sealed, there is minimal risk of attracting vermin. I would highly recommend it for any keen gardener and indeed family looking to make good use of food waste and indeed small amounts of garden waste. Quickcrop were very quick in organising dispatch and delivery with the product arriving within 2 days of purchase. Great product and service and looking forward to continuing success in future composting.

    Joraform JK 270

Easy to assemble, two of us did it in an hour and fifteen minutes including nipping into the house to avoid showers. Have loaded up 4kg of food waste and vegetable trimmings along with compost and compost from the wormery, including worms. Excited to see what happens. Excellent advice and very quick delivery, I highly recommend Quickcrop having used them for many years.

The Big Pig - several years in

It doesn’t look as pretty as it did when it arrived several years ago - it has stains where I let the contents get a bit too wet and liquid fit out through the joins, and the insulation hasn’t been white for years? but it turns out compost as fast as ever - in fact faster in this record hit summer, and it turns just as easily now we are nearly 80 as it did when we were chickens of 70 because you use body weight, not muscle, to spin it. I wish I knew how the compost worms manage to colonise it. They are in there the moment it begins to cool after you move to the second chamber if the C:N ratio and moisture are healthy. We only use it for kitchen waste and cardboard to give us weed free compost that we can use for propagation and in the course of the year it makes an awful lot of it. It’s a pity it doesn’t stand high enough to be able to drop the contents into a wheelbarrow but one side finished just about fills a big plastic fish box and that does fit underneath so problem solved. We don’t keep it on a hard surface - we cover the ground with ramiel shreddings as mulch and the escaped liquid helps this breakdown quickly, though not nearly as fast as it does in the pig, so we get another lot of compost to top dress beds for things that need a slower release such as the fruit bushes. Great product altogether. Just wish I could afford to buy a second one. This is the perfect size for a small family that eats lots of veggies and does a lot of propagating. At my age and height - 5’1” - I don’t think I could turn the 400

    Big Pig: worth the hype!

I have it one week. I followed both the instructions and quick crops YouTube video. Quick crop has a slight difference in suggestion for where the lower bar on standing frame goes, which I think is a better set up. It took me about 1.5 hours to put it together, but I am pretty handy with flat back items. It’s a two person job, as some parts are big or awkward. I did a lot of research on Reddit for all types of tumblers. Avoid the temptation to “wheel of fortune” spin it. Nice slow rotations. Stop spinning once it heats up: mine hit 57’C at peak after a few days. Once it cooled to below 30’C I spun it and adjusted the mix: mine was quite dry as it was steaming away for days. Very happy with it… like most of these things, it’s an art and a science so keep troubleshooting and talking to others online or in person.

    Joraform compost Tumbler JK270

I have owned a Joraform composter for about fifteen years now having inherited one from my mother. She had it for about the same number of years so it really should be allowed to retire. The thing is, I love it but the metal bars it lives on are distinctly wobbly. The main body of the composter is still fine. Most of the metal handles have rusted off but there is still one so it can be rotated. The new one was quickly and easily assembled. I love the height of it. My old one is quite low to the ground. I also love the fact that it has two doors which it will make it easier to empty. My old one has one long door so everything tries to pile out when emptying one side. I was glad to see the new one has plastic handles and they’re a good size too. It won’t be taking pride of place in my garden as that position still goes to my old one, but it can sit next to it. I’m not sure if it’s because of age, but my old one is like the most amazing wormery. I’ve no idea how they got into it, but they appear to thrive in the warmth of the composter and for the past number of years I’ve not needed to add wood chips or anything else to avoid smells. The worms seem to be dealing with this too. I could never go back to any other type of composter. Now I’m going to see if the frame the JK270 can be ordered separately as I think it will fit my old one, which would allow it to begin a new life, albeit without handles. A bit like getting hip replacements I suppose! It will always take pride of place as it deserves to.

    Great composter

Assembly was fine with the help of Quickcrop YouTube videos. Very solid, well made item. I only have it one week but within days my compost was producing a pot of heat so bodes well for performance. The only downside for me was the high cost, but hopefully it will be worth it over time.

    Composter

It required two of us to put it together but otherwise it was simple enough to assemble. It’s only been a few days but already I can feel the heat being generated from the decomposition of the contents which is amazing. The insulation really makes a difference. My only disappointment is that the insulation is exposed. I would have thought that it would be totally encapsulated by the metal sheeting as I can’t imagine it’s going to fare very well over time. Surely moisture will be absorbed into it and/or upon removing the compost, the insulation will be damaged.
