The Jostaberry, sometimes spelled Josterberry, is a blackcurrant and gooseberry cross which grows more like a blackcurrant. A very vigourous grower with fruit twice the size of blackcurrants and good resistance to mildew. The fruit is as popular with birds as humans so protective netting is recommended.

The berry is quite shiny and nearly black and is somewhat smaller than a gooseberry but larger than a blackcurrant. They can be eaten raw or cooked and if unripe can be substituted for gooseberries in certain recipes as well as responding well to freezing. Berries are succulent with a slightly sharp kick and are high in pectin making them well suited for jam making.

Jostaberry Health Benefits:
These berries are high in Vitamin C and Antioxidants and have been proven to reduce risk of chronic diseases.

Product delivery was very fast and bare root plants arrived in excellent condition. I have planted them and look forward to watching them get established next year. I planted them close a large shed wall which is white. I am wondering if I should change the colour to black for more heat absorption.

I have a small new jostaberry plant. Will the established blueberries in my garden like it as a neighbour?

Hi Susie To be honest they won't cross pollinate but the more fruiting plants you have the more bees and the better crops so i suppose in a way they will help each other Regards Niall Quickcrop

I planted the 2 Jostaberries from Quickcrop near a large shed wall. Should I paint the wall black or white?

White will reflect the sun back on to the plants so that would be the better option but be careful to use a lead free paint.

Can you tell me the pruning regime of the Jostaberry & does the bush have thorns like a Gooseberry bush ? Regards Mervyn Hobbs

Hi Mervyn. The pruning regime is the same as a blackcurrant, to encourage the supply of new wood by selective annual pruning down to the base of the plant. A Jostaberry is thornless. I hope this helps. Andrew
