Garden Mesh For Pest Control

This Micromesh garden netting is made from ultra fine U.V. stabilised, 90gsm mono-filament woven polyethylene to offer the best insect protection for plants. It keeps the majority of garden pests like carrot flies, flea beetles and aphids out while allowing air and water in. The garden mesh netting has a soft green tint that helps retain warmth and prevents scorching.

Micromesh is the ultimate in organic pest control and plant protection for fruit and vegetable crops. The mesh is fine enough to keep out the smallest of pests like cabbage root fly, while still allowing air, sunlight, and moisture in so the plants remain healthy. There is no need to remove the mesh when watering or applying a liquid feed.

Ideal for protection against; cabbage Root Fly, carrot Fly, White Fly, Onion Fly, flea Beetle, vine Weevil and aphids and others, also bees, wasps, Cutworm and other caterpillars, moths and butterflies.

I have used this product for a few years now and it is still as good as ever. My garden is in a windy location so I cover most beds with this - hoops to make a sort of a tunnel - in the early months of the growing season. It is a great help to the young plants I leave it on all the time on the carrots and cabbages. At this stage, I can't imagine how I would grow brassicas with out it.

Micromesh Bulk Roll is very useful to keep out unwanted carrot root flies etc.

I bought it to save my carrots from the carrot root fly then realised it should work on my brassicas too so bought a second one as well. Works perfectly, no pest issues on these crops at all this year. The material seems to be of a very good quality, strong and durable. Highly recommended, will definitely buy more later on.

with what can i glue two strips of mesh together for a vegetable tunnel ? i am sure you are aware that any tape will not work ! the tunnel will be a semi permanent fixture in my garden. i have used evo previously, but ?

Hi Dennis To be honest the only way i can see it working is to buy Mesh wide enough at source or to in some way burn them together using a heat gun. A glue gun might work but i don't think it would be strong enough Niall Quickcrop

Can this be an alternative to fleece for protecting early crops through mid to late spring? Can you explain the pros and cons? I prefer the appearance and longeveity, so as a bottom line, how much better is it than no fleece do you think? With thanks

Hi Liz This can be used as a fleece cover instead of fleece but with a lot of other advantages. It allows water through. It stops a whole host of nasties like carrot root fly, aphids, cabbage white butterfly etc and you are right it lasts way way longer as you won't tear it in a hurry Niall Quickcrop

Hi Joyce A bit close together to be honest. You would really need about 2.5m + for 3 rows of Brassicas Niall Quickcrop

Hi I have just put micromesh directly on my small brassicas. Is it ok to leave it directly on top or do you need to lift it. It doesn't seem wide enough to lift and keep secure for most beds. I believe its ok to keep it directly on the plants but what happens when they get bigger?! Many thanks.

Hi Catriona. It is OK to leave on top. The 2 most common problems with brassicas are cabbage root fly and cabbage white butterfly caterpillars. Root fly is really only a major problem when the plants are small as larger plants generally grow through the problem (there loose a few roots but have enough of a root ball to keep growing). Lying there mesh directly on plants will solve the root fly problem but if you want to net against cabbage white later on you will need to build a structure to hold net and join 2 lengths together (a stapler is handy for this). I hope this helps. Andrew

Hi lads Would I still need this to keep out pests when growing my brassica in a raised bed? Would it be any good for covering potatoes during frost? Great website and info. Thanks Malvin

HI Malvin Yes i am afraid Brassicas need covering no matter where you grow them or you are at risk of cabbage moth or caterpillars. Yes you can use this to cover potatoes although we are past frosts now Niall Quickcrop

Hi Gordon. The wider the better. You will need the 3.6m x 6m micromesh pack for mini polytunnels cover Niall Quickcrop

Is it biodegradable or compostable or is there more environment-able friendly option
Answered by Niall
on July 01st, 2019
Hi Chris I am afraid the Micromesh is not biodegradeable. That said it is so strong that you will get a lifetime out of one roll of it if you store it well each winter. Due to how fine the mesh on it needs to be there is presently no Biodegradeable option on the market although we are searching all the time for one Niall Quickcrop

1. Are the ends of each roll just cut or are they sealed (heat) or stitched to prevent fraying 2. Is each roll 1.8m long by the required diameter for the length of netting or are they folded flat?
