Large Vitopod Heated Propagator Single or Double

In a nutshell....

Large Vitopod heated propagator for better seedling propagation. It is a stackable unit that enables you to grow taller plants in colder weather with ease.

Top Quality Electric Heated Propagators

The Vitopod is quite simply the best electric propagator your can buy. No, it's not cheap but the design and build quality of this unit is the best you'll see anywhere. It was voted the best buy propagator by BBC Gardeners World magazine. This professional electric propagator from greenhouse sensation will enable you to grow larger or tall plants with ease.

The Vitopod features a unique stack-able system meaning it can also be used for a permanent home for chili plants or other warm climate crops. Separate side extensions are available for increasing the height of your unit, up to 4ft if required.

The base features a fully enclosed and completely water proof heating element which gives an even spread of heat across the base with no hot or cold spots. Temperature is precisely controlled by the include thermostat which can be accurately set in 1 degree increments between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius.
As I’ve already mentioned it’s the quality of this unit that really stands out. I love well built products and was impressed from the moment I unwrapped the first piece.

This is a proper piece of equipment, maybe not for the beginner gardener because of the price but a very worthwhile investment if you’re hooked and want to continue growing vegetables for a number of years, it is great as a gardening gift also. The best propagator we’ve seen, a serious piece of kit.

Used my propagator for early tomato seedlings Very happy 😃! I also purchased the lights which were great. I think these could also be used during the darker months in the greenhouse for Winter salad. Will try next winter I purchased the double unit/double height and only issue I had was the stability in the middle when we assembled the unit. That’s the reason for the four stars versus five

This is a great piece of kit getting great results from my tomato and chilli I'm using it with the lights so the seedlings aren't leggy at all but I'm having to buy the height extension because growth on the tomatoes is so good.

I bought the Vitopod Heated Propagator a couple of weeks ago from quickcrop, and it has been terrific - all my seedlings came up and the brilliant white light kept them all at a very regular height and they are so even & strong now. Thanks quickcrop - a 5 star for you and Vitopod!!

Very good product and good germination results thus far. A little tricky to assemble so perhaps instructions could be better. The thermostat has to be fed in via the green adjustable vents and won't fit through the small holes in the side panels as seen in the demonstration video.

I love my new propagator! It was easy to assemble, holds lots of plants and the temperature probe is really useful. I bought two heights of sides and this is super as I am not restricted by size of cuttings.

Excellent service from Quickcrop. My Vitopod arrived really quickly by courier. It was very easy to put together and set up. It's nice and large which will take seedlings and pots. Nothing to not like about this super product. Looking forward to growing some quality seeds I bought from you too. Thanks again, a very happy customer.

This is a great product. Big, roomy, strong, lets in lots of light. Once your gardening ambitions exceed the need to grow more than a single tray of seeds, then don't waste money on multiple other heated propagators with flimsy lids that cook your seedlings, get this one instead - it holds 5+ full size seed trays in comfort. I planted loads of seeds, and got my fastest and highest germination rate ever. It is quite big, so you'll need to set it up in a glasshouse/polytunnel/conservatory, or in a shed/garage under lights. I used it against a south-facing patio window, but that might not be an option for everybody.

Easy to put together, build quality looks good too. The display on the thermostat is clear and easy to read. Currently using this for germinating a variety of veg seeds, but will also try rooting cuttings in late summer. Very happy.

Our propagator arrived quickly and well packed(important its an expensive piece of kit!) We have it up and running and so far I would say it has been money well spent. Seed germination seems quicker and better with this than previous years when we did not have a heated unit. We bought the double size and it fits a good number of trays/ modules. Our only difficulty with it was that it was not that easy to assemble. Other reviewers said it was.. but it took us a fair bit of time to figure it out. The diagram that came with it was for the single version and didn't help. We had to go back to the quickcrop site and video of the unit to figure it out.

I received my Vitopod over two weeks ago and it's in constant use since . it is well built and made of good quality materials . The easy to read and operate thermostat enables user to determine actual and desired soil temperatures. I am currently germinating both vegetable and flower seed which will give me an earlier start to the planting season. Practical information in the booklet supplied eg how long to leave seedlings in vitopod would be of benefit to the novice. Quickcrop.ie were easy to deal with over the phone, helpful in answering questions and prompt delivering the order. Well done to an Irish based company for this excellent service.

This is definitely the best propagator on the market. I can't believe how easy it was to build and the fact that I can buy additional tiers is amazing. Its a little delicate which would be the only fault I'd have with it but aside from that it really is amazing. Top quality build and its simple to construct and use. Looking forward to growing some tomatoes and other plants I normally wouldn't be able to grow. Thanks quickcrop.

April 25th, 2016
The Large Vitopod is absolutely amazing. I've read some reveiews claiming it was a little tricky to put together, but that isn't true. It is very simple to put together, especially if you've watched the video from QuickCrop about it. There is lot's of room for trays. We have 5 trays in ours now with seedlings already on the way. If you really want to grow your own from seed, this is the best way to ensure you get the highest strike rate on your seeds. THe only real problem with it, is finding the right spot for it, as it is quite big, but that is a problem we're happy to have. Great purchase, and would definitely recommend.

Pictures don't do this propagator justice. Its huge with room for a variety of plants. I picked up a double height one and I can say it was money well spent. There is enough room to have my seedlings growing on one side and my plug plants, which I plan on keeping in the propagator growing on the other. It was extremely easy to assemble and the thermostat was easy to use and comes with a good length of wire for the plug. I can't wait to try and grow some plants and vegetables that aren't used to the Irish climate.

Answered by Niall
on October 06th, 2021
Hi James You can of course but once the seeds pop you will have to move them off each other. The heat in the propagator will cause the one on the bottom to pop first and the others will follow with the heat in the air in the Propagator Niall Quickcrop

I have a large heated Vitopod propagator and would like to know if I could use capillary matting as a self watering device. Also could the Sunblarter Propogation Grow Lights be retrofitted to the covers of the Vitopod or do you supply a cover complete with growlights to suit the large Vitopod
Answered by Niall

Hi Edward The capillary mat in the Vitopod is perfectly ok as the bases are fully sealed against moisture. You can fit the Grow lights to any vitopod you just need to buy the light holders to fix it to the outside of the unit. Just put Vitopod in the search bar on the site and you will find them Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Dervila Cooke
on July 17th, 2018
Thanks very much for your response to my previous question. Thanks in particular for the note about minus 3 degrees meaning about 15 degrees in the Vitapod. I'll bear that in mind. If my Vitapod is outside on a patio during the winter receiving direct sunlight from above and reasonable light from one side will my plants get enough light or will they get leggy? Or is legginess only a problem if they're somewhere (e.g a garage or house) with no light coming from overhead?
Answered by Andrew
on July 17th, 2018
It depends on the temperature in the Vitopod but bear in mind light intensity is much weaker in Winter and daylight hours are much shorter. I would keep the heat in the Vitpod to the absolute minimum.
Asked By Dervila Cooke
on July 16th, 2018
Hello. I want to use either a Large Double Vitopod or a Geopod outside. I plan to use a stretchy luggage strap on it to keep it stable in wind etc, as I do with the lid for my veg trough. Someone suggested that the Geopod helped plants receive better light, however, I doubt the Geopod can be used outside because of the external electric lights (or can it?). I would be using the unit February to May in an outdoor location (i.e. on my patio, plugged into an outside socket). It would receive plenty of light from above and a reasonable amount from one side. I want the unit to be about 1 m long so I think the Geopod is out for me. Will the Vitapod be ok in terms of light for my plants (I don't want them to get leggy). Also, you say in a previous post that the cable is 5 foot long. Could you possibly check a recent version of the Large Double Vitapod to make sure the manufacturers have not changed this specification?
Answered by Niall
on July 17th, 2018
Hi Dervila The cables on the units are still the same at 5ft but you can use an extension cable You can use either the Geopod or the Vitopod outside as both will work in wet conditions although i am not sure if the lights will continue to work outside. The real issue you are going to have is that the Vitopod only has a range of 18 degrees so the colder it is outside the colder it will be outside. If it is in a conservatory that has a temp of 5 degrees at night the Vitopod will stay at 23 degrees but if it is outside and is minus 3 the Vitopod will not get beyond 15 degrees. Regards Niall Quickcrop

When you have seeding growing obviously they need watering. Can you water them whilst they are in the propagator or do you have to take them out to do this. Regards Vincent
Answered by Andrew

Hi Vincent. The unit is sealed so that you can of course water when the seedlings are in the unit. That is one of the big advantages of this unit.
Asked By Lorraine Abdy
on March 11th, 2017
I bought a large vitopod from you last February and was very pleased with the results I had. I particularly wanted it for seeds that had to be started early at a high temperature. It is now on a windowsill in an unused bedroom. I was trying to get it to 25 degrees but even when I put the central heating on and the room was quite warm it didn't reach this temperature. Is there a relevance between the room temp and the thermostat temp?
Answered by Andrew
on March 13th, 2017
Hi Lorraine. The room temp will effect when the Vitpod switches on and off as the higher the temp in the room the less work it has to do. Am I to understand the vitpod thermostat is set at 25 degrees but the temp displayed on the unit never gets to 25?
Asked By Mandy Smyth

Hi there, can capillary matting be used with the Vitopod or is overhead watering a better method? Thanks in advance.
Answered by Andrew

Hi Mandy. Capillary matting is fine as the unit is sealed so water on the base is not going to effect the unit at all.
Asked By Nell McCarthy

Answered by Andrew

Hi Nell. The Geopod is better as it has grooves along the top to hold the Lights. That said if you hand the lights then the Vitopod tends to be more versatile.

Technically the vitopod can be used outdoors, the components are waterproof, well made and hard wearing. I might be a little concerned about wind however as the perspex sides and lid slot together and may blow off in a strong wind. I think the unit is better suited to indoor use. I hope this help Andrew
