Description
Cynara scolymus (Globe Artichoke) is a herbaceous perennial vegetable, perfect for adding structure to sunny borders. This plant boasts an upright habit with huge, jagged grey-green leaves that look their best in spring and early summer.
From May onwards, large, spiny buds emerge which can be cut, cooked, and enjoyed as a delicious delicacy. If left to mature, the buds open into stunning purple, thistle-like flowers that attract vital pollinators, while the seed heads provide food for wild birds. Ideal for a sunny border or wildflower garden.
