A polytunnel is close to being a gardening essential in our temperate climate, allowing you to extend the growing season and increasing your chances of success with warm climate crops - which can be challenging to grow outdoors.
The Large Garden tunnel has an ultra durable 'gun-barrel' steel frame, with a wall thickness that is 60% heavier than competitors - helping it stand up to the harshest weather conditions.
This polytunnel has a curved design which ensures wind resistance, as well as oceans of headroom at the sides of the tunnel.
Sizing
With a fixed width of 18ft (5.5m) and a range of optional lengths to suit your plot (from 26ft to 59ft), the Large Garden Polytunnel offers ample space for cultivating a wide range of crops.
Frame Material
- 33.7mm x 2.75mm galvanised gunbarrel steel: ensures exceptional strength and durability, as well as resistance to corrosion.
Horticultural-grade Polythene Cover:
- 800 gauge (or 200 micron) thermal anti-drip polythene.
- Excellent light transmission (approximately 89%) and diffusion, for optimal plant growth.
- UV stabilisers to prevent degradation, extending the cover’s lifespan.
- Anti Hot Spot Tape included, to protect the cover from heat damage where it contacts the frame.
Structure: Hoops are spaced at 2m intervals, and connected by ridge and corner bracing for enhanced stability.
Door Frame: 2 x 1m double doors at both ends. Made from 3×3 inch and 4×3 pressure-treated timber for enhanced durability and resistance to environmental wear.

Optional Polytunnel Extras:
Doors: Made from pressure-treated timber, covered with UV-resistant polythene and featuring a green netting panel at the top to allow for ventilation.
Crop Bars: These provide additional structural support, they can also be used to hang plants or equipment from.
Base Rail: The base rail (made from pressure treated timber) secures the polythene cover without the need for trenching. This allows for a neater finish and easier installation.
Base Rail or buried polythene ('Trench Method')?
The polythene cover can be attached using two different methods: either by digging a trench down each side of the tunnel and burying the excess polythene in the ground, or by using a timber base rail to fix the polythene to.
The advantage of burying the polythene is that the structure will be marginally cheaper and it will be fixed more securely to the ground. The disadvantage is that it is a LOT more work to install and (unless you are an expert) very difficult to get the polythene properly tight.
A base rail system is more commonly used with modern tunnels as it is much quicker and easier to install, and allows adjustment of the polythene tension to achieve a drum-tight finish.
