Wood Pellets for Joraform Composters 15 KG

In a nutshell....

Natural wood pellets for use with Joraform rotating composters. Wood pellets are a source of carbon which may be needed if the compost bin is being used to process a high percentage of kitchen waste. The wood pellets are free from preservatives and adhesives. Bag Size: 15KG

Good composting requires a balance of carbon and nitrogen to break down material quickly and to produce enough heat to kill off weed seeds and pathogens. If you are composting more kitchen waste than garden waste (very likely in the Winter) you may be short of carbon based materials which can lead to wet and smelly composting material. To remedy this easily Joraform recommend adding a small handful of wood pellets when adding material to your compost bin. The pellets will break down quickly and help you produce finished compost in a matter of weeks.

Our Joraform recommend wood pellets are free from any adhesives or preservatives. The pellets are made by compacting pulped timber under very high pressures which releases the woods natural resins and binds them together. These pellets are ideal for use in the JK125 and JK270 Joraform compost units.

Hi GL Yes however you would need to more sparing with them as they won't break down as quickly as in the Joraform Niall Quickcrop

Hi Mike It will perform the same function as wood pellets are essentially compressed sawdust however i am not sure which is better Niall Quickcrop

What weight is the bag and how much would you put in approx/bucket of kitchen waste. How long does a bag last time wise (obviously this must depend on how much kitchen waste we are producing but to give you an idea we are a family of 4)?
Answered by Andrew

Hi Kate. I put a small handful in every time I am adding kitchen waste but this will vary depending on how much nitrogen based materials you are using. The bag is 15kg and should last about 6 months to a year for a family of 4.

The one thing i do not see is the weight of the bag. How much is actually in these bags of wood pellets?

H Andy. Sorry, that is a silly omission on our part which I have corrected. The weight of the wood pellet bag is 15kg.

can these pellets be used in other less efficient rotating composters, one of which I unfortunately bought
Answered by Andrew

Thank you for your question Killian. Yes is the answer however most other composters we have come across don't generate enough heat to break down the compost wood pellets
