The timber used in these beds is extra thick 4.5cm (1.75in) timber boards that slot together with a tongue and groove system incorporating a 'Lock Cut' that make them quite difficult to take apart. The boards have a stylish ridged face on the outside.

These beds are excellent! We've used them as a base for a fence with our neighbours and fitted screens to the back. So easy to fit together with minimal tools (a mallet!) saved so much time instead of fiddling about with screws. Finishing tops make a fantastic place to perch in the sun with a cuppa. Would definitely buy again.

Do the raised beds need to be lined with plastic/pond liner
Answered by Niall
on April 29th, 2019
Hi Rachel There is no need line the beds with a liner unless you are putting them on a patio or decking etc. The reason you would do this is to allow water go through but not take any soil with it. Don't use a pond liner whatever you do or no water will leave the base of the bed and you will end up with waterlogged soil Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi Wayne I am afraid the only sizes we have available in the Castleton range is what is showing on the site. We will be extending this range next season but not at present Niall Quickcrop

Hi. Are the heavy duty raised beds certified for organic vegetable growing? Thanks.
Answered by Niall
on February 26th, 2018
Hi Laura The actual beds are not certified however the Soil association have certified the product used to treat the wood if that is of any help. We supply a lot of Organic producers and the fact that the wood is a natural product means it can be used in Organic production Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi does the bed need a liner if growing vegetables in it ?
Answered by Andrew
on February 19th, 2018
Hi Lin. The Castleton bed is made from pressure treated timber so does not need a liner for growing vegetables in it. You can install a liner if you wish but this would only need to cover the inner sides of the beds rather than the base.

Hi Anne. Thank you for your question. The beds are treated to handle the climate in the West of Ireland. Our business originated in Sligo so similar weather to Kerry and we have plenty of these beds for over 10 years in our Sligo Quickcrop garden that are lasting nicely.

How long would the heavy duty thicker timber last in average rainfall areas?
Answered by Andrew

Hi Catriona. The timber will last at least 10 years. The makers of the preservative say 25 years but I think that is a bit high, it will be somewhere in between!
