A highly nutritious compost made by earthworms. 'Wormcast' compost is a perfectly balanced slow release feed and produces incredible root growth so is particularly good for starting off new vegetable seedlings.

Organic Enzyme Enriched Worm Cast Compost

Living Green worm castings compost suits a broad range of applications but is particularly well suited to bringing on young plants. Plants grown in worm castings build a more extensive root system making them stronger and healthier and better able to withstand attack from pests and diseases. Root growth really is phenomenal which also means your plants will cope with drought far better than plants with less extensive root systems.

This compost is perfect across the board and is suitable for seed germination, root development, plant growth as well as being a great compost for vegetables such as tomatoes, broccoli, courgette and countless others. Compost enriched by worms is rocket fuel for plants and Living Green came to the market in 2013 to the delight of organic growers everywhere, here's a little history about the compost:

Living Green organic compost is created on a commercial worm farm in Innishowen Co.Donegal. A whopping 17,000kg of worms convert their peat based bedding material, potato scraps and a high protein organic feed into this rich compost. As the worms digest and process their bedding material their digestive tract coats the materials particles in enzymes that allow the plants to absorb nutrients from the compost easier resulting in vigorous root growth and ultimately stronger and healthier plants.

Approved across the board in a number of trials by the Northern Ireland department of agriculture this compost has since gone on to be certified by the Organic Trust allowing its use in organic production with the compost approved in 2013.

Value
Our Organic certified wormcast compost is produced on one of the largest organic worm farms in the British Isles and because we produce so much wormcast you'll find our prices are considerably cheaper than any of our competitors. Remember our bags are a large 40kg size for only £12.95 making the magic of highly nutritious wormcast available at a fair price.

Living Green Wormcast Compost is excellent for planting out as it produces incredible root growth giving new plants a very noticeable head start over ordinary compost. It is rich in humus and readily available plant nutrients so is also perfect as a supercharged multipurpose compost, you simply won't believe the results you get from this stuff!

Living Green For Growing Wheatgrass
Once wheatgrass seeds have sprouted, they need to be transferred to a tray of moist compost to grow on. Living Green is the ideal compost to use for young wheatgrass shoots. Simply fill your tray with a 1cm deep layer of this compost and spread the sprouted wheat seeds across the surface.

N.B. Part of the worm's bedding material is peat based so 'Living Green' is not a completely peat free product.

Contents: 40 Litres

80% wormcast and 20% peat base

This is lovely compost to use but it dries out really quick and my brassica's don't seem to like it. I mix it with another compost and it seems great.

Great value for a wormcast compost. I have used this in pots and mixed it with soil when planting out and found it excellent. Fantastic root growth and strong and healthy plants. Highly recommended, I will be buying this from you every spring. Came packed in lovely Quickcrop hessian bags too, a nice touch, well done guys!

Really nice to handle, very easy to use in seed trays. Can dry out like other peats, but easy to rewet. Seeds generally don't need any extra food but having the natural worm casts allows you to leave your seedlings longer in their trays. Also great for pots. I like it and will certainly use it again.

Do I need to add any nutrients to the plants over time? I am planning to us this compost exclusively in my raised bed of vegetables.
Answered by Niall
on April 05th, 2019
Hi Hazel The Living Green has plenty of nutrients in it for about 2 years of growing but as vegetables are very hungry crops you would need to add nutrient rich compost to your soil in about 2 years time. Start a good compost heap which will give you plenty to add to your soil by then Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Jill
on March 30th, 2019
Hi, Is this compost suitable for growing carrots in or is it too 'nutritious' for them ? Thanks.
Answered by Niall
on April 01st, 2019
Hi Jill It is fine for growing carrots as the material is so loose the roots of the carrot can work through it really well causing them not to fork. The nutrient levels are good however the carrots seem fine with this as i have grown carrots in it myself. Niall Quickcrop

on December 10th, 2018
Hi Geoff, I would like to use it in a sandy soil, How may bags do I need for 10 m2? Thank you
Answered by Niall
on December 11th, 2018
Hi Florence It depends on the purpose you have for adding the Living green for your soil. If it is to raise the nutrient level in your soil you would need 1 bag for every 1m squared. You might be better looking at Envirogrind which will add more nutrients to the soil per square metre. In that case 4/5 bags of Envirogrind will be sufficient to cover the same area Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Brian Webster
on November 17th, 2018
Hi, is there microbiology in this compost. I want to make compost tea
Answered by Niall
on November 19th, 2018
Hi Brian There certainly is however it may not have the same levels as if you made worm compost yourself as this is mixed with Peat but still plenty of life in it. Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Antonio

I need to grow aromatic erba for personal use: is this ready to use to fill pots or requires also additional soil to mix? Are the worms there or just the result of their eating? Cheers
Answered by Niall
on July 17th, 2018
Hi Antonio There are no worms in the compost as they have been removed from the process. This compost has plenty of nutrients in it to grow the crop you want and doesn't need anything added to it Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi is this pure worm cast or has it been mixed to produce a ready to use growing medium.
Answered by Niall
on March 12th, 2018
Hi Geoff It is the bedding for the worms and their wormcasts are left in it so it is roughly 20% pure wormcast and the remainder essentially a potting mix Regards Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Serge
on December 27th, 2017
what is the ratio of worm cast to peat in a bag of 40litre?

Hi Serge. I am afraid it is impossible to give those figures. All i can tell you is that the Peat used has 5 cycles of worms going through it.

Hi Warren. I am afraid the manufacturer doesn't give a full breakdown of the nutrients. I will chase up with them to see if they have any further information on the contents.

Hi, are the potato skins and other feeds given to the worms from an organic source as well?
Answered by Andrew

To be honest Ben i am not 100% sure but i don't think Living Green could get certification from the Organic Trust unless they were coming from an Organic source. I will check with them.
Asked By Tiffany
on February 22nd, 2017
Is this compost good for seed germination? Should I mix it with anything?
Answered by Andrew
on February 22nd, 2017
Hi Tiffany. Yes it is however you would be best to mix it with a standard potting compost as due to its texture the plants grow very well however the plug as a whole tend to break up when removed from the trays. A better seed compost is our Klasmann range.
