Radicchio 'Palla Rossa'

Radicchio can be grown just for small early leaves but I think thete are more suitable red varieties for that. I prefare to grow it for full round heads which need good spacing during summer and start developing the red colour and that distintive bitter flavour during autumn. It stands well in the ground during early winter in my experience, and it is great for that specisl winter salad. It is quite expensive to buy in a shop and is rarely crisp so if you like it, it is worth having a go at growing your own.
