Raised Beds For Vegetable Gardening

Premier raised beds are designed to withstand the normal wear and tear associated with vegetable gardening. This raised vegetable bed is a chunkier design than our classic allotment range and uses thicker timber boards with rounded edges and thicker internal fixing posts to keep it together. A premier bed will give you up to 10 years of growing. They have a natural timber finish and are treated to last longer in the garden, polytunnel, greenhouse or down at the allotment. The treatment used is certified by the Soil association as safe for use with organic food crops.

7 inch high raised beds are best placed on prepared soil for larger plants but can be used on a hard surface for growing shallow rooted salads. An ideal raised bed for novices and more experienced gardeners alike. This Premier raised bed is made from long lasting 7 inch wooden boards, 1.25 inches thick and comes in a flatpack kit with all the screws and instructions necessary for construction.

Pressure Treated Timber
All the timber we use for our raised beds is pressure treated. The treatment used is certified by the soil association as safe to use with and around organic food crops. It does not discolour or leave an oily feel smell on the timber. The raised bed kits all retain their natural timber finish and as a result will fit in nicely with any garden rustic or contemporary garden design type. Alot of raised bed manufacturers treat their timber and then cut into boards for their kits. This keeps costs down and saves time. We do it the opposite way, we cut the timber and then treat it so that none of it remains untreated. Treating before cutting leaves the ends untreated, these will then suck up more moisture and rot or warp quicker than they should. Our raised beds are all about longevity. Very quick delivery. Quite a long assembly process involving a lot of drilling. The assembled table looks very sturdy. As yet I haven't sited or used it.

Could you please confirm whether the given size is an internal or external dimension.Thankyou
Answered by Niall
on October 12th, 2021
Hi Peter It is an external dimension however it depends on how you build the bed. If you build the bed with end boards inside the long boards the bed is slightly wider but if you build the bed with the end boards on the outside the bed is a fraction narrower Niall Quickcrop

I just took delivery of my first raised bed pack. I ordered corner angle brackets but now I think I do not need them as my bed will be just one 7" board high. I don't want to return them or anything as i will find another use for them. Just wondering.

Hi David Not 100% sure what the question is. If you want to return the brackets we can take them back but often the collection charge kills the benefit of the return Niall Quickcrop

Hi, when installing raised beds are you better lining the sides or do you just fill them with soil and that’s it? I’m after growing asparagus in them.
Answered by Niall
on March 15th, 2021
Hi Martin There is no need to line them unless you are putting them on a patio etc. If going on soil or grass i wouldn't bother lining as the wood is treated and can well handle having soil up against it all the time Niall Quickcrop

Are the screw holes pre drilled?

Hi Lewis. The screw holes are not pre drilled in this product but we do supply high quality self tapping screws that are very easily screwed into the timber.

Hi. Can these be stacked to raise the height? How easy is this to do?
Answered by Niall

Hi Janine Yes they can however you would be better buying a 14 inch high bed as the post is then one complete long post for fixing the bed together Niall Quickcrop

Hi there I was gonna buy this raised bed, can you tell me me how many 25kg bags of pea gravel would be needed to fill the bed? And the same for the 4ft square one? Do you sell pea gravel around 10mm minimum Thanks
Answered by Andrew
on August 09th, 2017
Hi Stephen. It depends on the volume of a 25kg bag. The volumes of the different sized beds are as follows: 6ft x 3ft x 7in - 297.25 Litres of soil or compost (i.e. 5 x 60 Litre Bags) 6ft x 4ft x 7in - 396.5 Litres to fill (i.e. 6.75 x 60 Litre Bags) 6ft x 6ft x 7in - 594 Litres of soil or compost (i.e. 10 x 60 Litre Bags) I am afraid we don't sell 10mm pea gravel, sorry!
