Red Duke of York is a fantastic all round potato being equally good for roasting, mashing, baking or making chips. The tuber has a dark red skin with a pale yellow flesh which is more floury than waxy. Red Duke of York produces much larger potatoes than the standard yellow Duke of York variety. My favourite, I grow it every year.

Hi Hazel It doesn't really matter to much either way. I would put them in the bags around the end of February early March. If the bags are going to be in a glasshouse or tunnel you can put them in now Niall Quickcrop

When is the best time to purchase these to allow them to "chit" and when is the earliest in 2015 I can sow them. I have my beds topped up with manure and covered with plastic at the moment.

Hi Tom We will have seed potatoes available in mid to late January. I usually chit my potatoes in early Feb for planting out around St.Patrick's day. It is really too cold to do so before this as potato shoots are very frost sensitive and any gains made by early planting are usually taken away by Jack Frost. Also, the longer you leave you beds the better to allow the manure to break down as much as possible before planting. By the sounds of your excellent preparation you are due for a happy years growing next year. I hope this helps. Andrew
