Seed Trays For Growing Wheatgrass
Once wheatgrass seeds have sprouted, they need to be transferred to a tray of moist compost to grow on. These Heavy duty seed trays make the ideal base for young wheatgrass shoots as they are the right size and have drainage holes on the bottom. Place some sheets of newspaper on the bottom of the tray first to prevent the roots from sticking through. Simply fill your tray with a 1cm deep layer of compost and spread the sprouted wheat seeds across the surface and remember to keep moist, place in the dark by covering with a damp tea towel for a couple of days. Then place on a windowsill for a further few days until the grass begins to fork. You can re-use the tray again and have multiple crops of fresh wheatgrass each month. Wheatgrass is full of nutrients and vitamins and is perfect for making your own healthy green juices or smoothies, or mixing in as part of a salad.
