Description
A very versatile mound forming grass with light, feathery seeds heads. Airy and light, deschampsia should be planted in groups to form a hazy drift that catches the sunlight. Silvery flower spikes mellow to a golden yellow in late Summer and makes a beautiful contrast when spot planted among flowering perennials.
Goes well with:
Flowers - Actaea simplex Black Negligee, Anemone hyb. Königin Charlotte - Japanese anemone, Helenium ‘Moorheim Beauty’ (Autumn daisy).
Grasses - Molinia caerulea ‘Moorhexe’ (purple moor grass)
Care of Deschampsia
Remove spent flower heads in late winter before new growth resumes in spring. Any scruffy looking foliage that needs to be tidied can also be removed by cutting back hard. Deschampsia will re-seed in warmer gardens, new seedlings should be removed around the plant as part of weeding routine.
