Description
Horseradish from the mustard family is primarily grown for it's root which is powerfully spicy. The leaves are also edible and can be used in salads. Horseradish sometimes produces small white flowers in the summer and while with other plants you may want to either encourage or discourage flower growth, with horseradish it makes little difference to the root production.
It's known to stimulate digestion and circulation. It is also great at clearing sinus'. The root is generally grated and eaten raw as cooking lowers the heat. Most wasabi worldwide is actually horseradish and mustard powder with green colouring.
Plant in a dedicated bed/container so it doesn't take over. Even after harvesting, any small roots remaining will regrow. It will survive freezing winters and can be harvested in late Autumn and early Spring.
