The 280 Deluxe is available in either a traditional wood fired or electric option depending on your preference and/or access to a power source. We also offer this beautiful garden sauna with either a timber or full glass front and a choice of solid timber back or 'half moon' glass option. You can choose your options using the variation tabs above.
Wood fired or electric?
A wood fired sauna can be placed anywhere so is ideal for more rural settings especially if a handy source of firewood is available. The fact that no power is required means your sauna can be placed away from the house in a private location. The ambience and aroma of a real wood fired sauna also adds to the traditional and authentic Scandinavian experience.
An electric sauna may be more convenient than a wood fired sauna but you will also need access to a standard 240V domestic power supply.
What is Thermowood?
Themowood is heat treated European redwood which causes chemical and structural changes within the timber. The heating process breaks down the hemicellulose in the wood which removes the food source for rot and fungi to develop, this makes thermowood last longer. Thermowood also has a darker colour than untreated European redwood with a finish and hue more like cedar.
What is a 'Half Moon' back?
A half moon back means the top half of the circular back wall of the structure is made from glass allowing natural light into the sauna.
How do I install a sauna?
We provide a nationwide installation service for all our sauna models. The build usually takes our expert building team a half day to complete for standard size units. The sauna does come in kit form so can also be installed by a competetnt DIY enthusiast; the kit is not complicated but it is fiddly so we don't receommend a home build unless you have experience with basic woodwork.
How much does installation cost?
The average cost for delivery and installation is €780 for all barrel sauna models. This fee may vary for more remote locations, please contact us for a quote if unsure.
Where can a sauna be installed?
A barrel sauna can be installed on any level surface. The body of the sauna sits on 2 x 1600mm long x 100mm thick timber joists, these are the only parts that touch the ground. We recommend stones, blocks, concrete or pavimg slabs to be used as a foundation which only need to be placed under the timber support joists.
A wood fired sauna can be placed in any location provided an adequate footing is available. Electric saunas need to be placed within reach of a mains power supply.
Preparing Your Site for Sauna Assembly
To ensure that you have a good solid base for when your sauna is to be assembled, here are some tips.
Loose Sand/Gravel Bed:
Remove a soil layer, then ensure that the ground is compacted.
A geotextile soil membrane is a good idea; it prevents grass from growing through gravel layers.
The edges of the excavation can be strengthened with boarding.
Prepare a sand and gravel mixture with a ratio of 1:1.
Gravel should be between 5 and 20 mm thick.
Spread the mixture over several layers; firm and compact each layer as you go.
You can use a spirit level to ensure that the top layer is even and compacted firmly.
Concrete Foundation:
Remove a soil layer and ensure that the site is compacted.
Create a formwork so that the concrete site is higher than ground level (wood can be used to construct form)
Going step by step, fill drainage layers (first layer: sand, second layer: gravel) and firm each layer as you go.
Reinforce the foundation.
This should then be followed by grouting of the concrete base.
Site should be left to harden for at least 20 days.
Sauna benefits
We don't like to overplay the health benefits of using a sauna, e.g. removing toxins from the body, improving circulation, relaxing tired or sore muscles, reducing stress and improving sleep because much of the evidence is anecdotal rather than scientific. What we can say is that using a sauna leaves one feeling wonderfully calm and relaxed. Combining a sauna with a cold plunge either in a cold shower or plunge pool is refreshing and invigorating and leaves you feeling fresh, alert and raring to go. We believe, as the Scandinavians have for generations, that saunas are a beneficial addition to a happy, low stress life.
