Gardening Knife for Harvesting Asparagus
Traditional asparagus harvesting knife from Burgon and Ball's range of garden hand tools. The blade is forged from high carbon steel for durability and to retain a sharp edge for longer, the handle is smoothly finished hardwood with a leather hanging strap/wrist strap attached. It comes with a protecting sleeve for the blade to ensure longevity and to prevent mishaps. It has been designed in such a way that it minimises potential damage to asparagus crowns by providing a good, clean cut. This also leads to healthier re-growth.
There are two main methods for harvesting asparagus, sawing through the stem beneath the soil surface, or slicing through the spear under the soil. This knife makes it easier as it combines both methods with one blade. It has a serrated blade for sawing through the stem as well as a sharpened tip for slicing through the spear.
It can also be used for harvesting other root vegetables as well as some general gardening tasks. There is not much maintenance required to keep these knives in top condition, they should be cleaned after use with water and towel dried. The blade comes ready oiled and will need to be oiled again after use to keep it in optimal condition.
