I hope to buy and plant a dwarf conference pear tree shortly. Would it do better near a wall or in middle of smallish garden? Also, roughly how wide will the tree grow, as this would determine where I put it.

Hi Kathleen If planted near a wall just be careful that the wall is structurely very strong as the roots will go under it. That said beside a wall is great as it lets the tree get going a lot faster as it is protected from the wind. Pear trees don't spread to much however you would want to allow about 6 feet on each side Niall Quickcrop

Can you grow conference pear in a container?
Answered by Niall
on September 30th, 2020
Hi Noeleen You can but it will need to be quite a wide container as the roots grow out as opposed to down. Also the pear tree won't grow as large as normal but it won't restrict the fruit growth Niall Quickcrop

I would be planting the pear tree in an orchard, do I need two trees forf pollination and if I got both varieties would they cross pollinate?.
Answered by Niall

Hi Aideen It is not essential for pollination to have 2 trees however it does help and using two different varieties definitely improves things Regards Niall Quickcrop
