This is one of the most common reasons for failure of lettuce plants. Keep an eye on your thermometer and if the mercury gets above 25º place your seedling trays in a cool shed for a couple of days until the seeds germinate.
Most greenhouse plants like a temperature of about 28º, anything over 30º can slow down growth cause damage to many plants. When the your greenhouse or polytunnel gets too hot make sure you have adequate ventilation.
When starting vegetable seedlings earlier in the year it is also helpful to know your temperature. Daytime winter temperatures in the tunnel can be significantly warmer than outside but at night there is little difference. Protect young seedling plants from frost with horticultural fleece which will insulate from between 3 and 5 degrees.
