Description
Capillary matting is a clever way of watering plants via capillary action: this is where liquid is drawn upwards through porous material. When capillary matting is laid beneath plant pots or at the bottom of a seed tray, the plant roots will take up moisture as needed: this is a very efficient watering method with minimal waste.
This capillary matting is pre cut by hand, and made of a non-woven material which includes viscose and polyester fibres.
Capillary matting should be soaked before use; alternatively you can use the matting in combination with a seed tray and a base reservoir which the mat can 'wick' water from.
Capillary matting is ideal for using with propagators, young seedlings, plants in pots and trays; not to mention it's great for watering plants when you are away for a few days (just make sure your water reservoir has been topped up).
This economical watering method ensures that plants are not overwatered and pots don't become waterlogged.
Product Advice:
- Soak matting in water well before use to ensure maximum water retention
- Sow seeds in pots or trays and stand on matting to keep the compost moist and aid germination
- After prolonged use, rinse the matting in clean warm water to remove any dirt and fungai spores
- Mats can be cut smaller to fit
- Can also be used to supply liquid plant feed
