Green Holly (Ilex aquifolium) is a slow-growing evergreen tree with a rich symbolism and mythology. It's perhaps most familiar for its use in Christmas wreaths; however, the tree boasts year-round glossy, dark green foliage.
White flowers bloom in spring, while the female plant produces red berries from autumn through winter. The spiny rich green leaves make it an excellent choice for dense ornamental hedging or as a stand-alone tree in your garden.
Mature holly trees can reach heights of up to 15 meters and live for over 300 years, becoming a long-lasting feature in any landscape.
A haven for birds and insects, holly's evergreen canopy provides excellent nesting cover, while its flowers offer nectar for pollinators. The berries meanwhile provide crucial sustenance for wildlife during the winter months.
