The WoodStone® Bat Box is a durable and environmentally sustainable shelter designed for a variety of bat species, including the Common Pipistrelle, Brown Long-eared Bat, Noctule, and more. Constructed from a robust mix of 100% FSC-certified wood fibers and concrete, this bat box offers excellent insulation and protection from predators while maintaining a stable internal temperature.
Primarily intended for installation in trees, the bat box can also be placed in attics, making it a versatile choice for both urban and rural environments. It is suitable for use as a summer roost, breeding site, and even as a shelter for small maternity groups. In mild winters, some bat species may continue to use the box for protection.
This bat box features two entrances—one at the front and one at the bottom—each designed with integrated tit barriers to prevent unwanted intrusions. Inside, a textured concrete structure allows bats to easily hang and roost, with a clear space at the top where multiple bats can gather. The removable concrete insert makes the bat box easy to monitor and clean, ensuring a long-lasting and hygienic habitat.
For optimal results, the bat box should be installed at a minimum height of 3 meters in a tree, forest, park, or garden, using the provided large screw hook. If placing multiple bat boxes, it is recommended to vary their height and orientation to maximize the chances of occupation. The box should not be installed on illuminated facades, near windows, doors, or in direct artificial light from streetlamps.
Annual maintenance is simple—bat boxes should be inspected and cleaned in winter, preferably during a frost period when they are less likely to be occupied. A long-handled brush can be used to remove cobwebs and debris, and if the bat box is mounted in trees, the suspension should be checked for stability.
